I agree, the contract was made then changed so its now a new contract. Re-negotiate for more money. Its more work for you so needs to be an increase in your revenue.

Well not to sound harsh but What do you expect if you do it on a verbal agreement? Technically there was never a "contract" in the first place. If you are turning into a miserable A-hole then its not worth doing is it? What do you want more , your friends and family or a pile of money?

Hands down...happy FTW.

What are you talking about? There is no breach in contract here. He gets his rate confirmation on the load from the agent before he runs it, that is the contract spelling out load details and pay. This is a weekly run the agent has and he's got a driver on it he trusts. So verbally these two agree this is Landstar8891's load and that's that. The agent and driver have no control over customer needs so when extra stops were added by the customer, at that point Landstar8891 has to decide, do I want this load anymore or not is it worth the hassle? Do you think he'd still be running the load if money wasn't bumped up to cover the extra miles and stops? He didn't just fall off the turnip truck. The new rate confirms every week reflect the extra work with more money. Customer's needs changed on the run simple as that. Agent gets paid to cover customer needs not to be a travel agent for drivers.Ranger Bob, landstar8891 and Cetane+ Thank this.

Get your own numbers, start running the freight as a brokered truck, sign on another truck to split the work and steal the customer away from LS..........
landstar8891 and mikec265 Thank this. -
The contract is between the LS agent and the customer.....8891 has a great rep with all of his local agents so he was offered this run since they knew he would take great care of this customer. The problem started when the customer added another round (probably because they really like 8891) so now it's turned into a burnout gig........8891 has no control over the deal between the customer and the LS agent.......

Even if the customer would give it to him direct that's great advice to burn any good LS contacts he has as an outside carrier. More likely the LS agent will get wind of it and he'll end up with nothing. If a person wants direct they ought to do the legwork, not shyster in on the freight.truckon Thanks this.

He will survive without that 1 agent if he did go thru with bobs plan. I have done the same except with a tanker outfit i was leased to. being ex landstar as well i could be a thorn in some agents sides, but i dont want to pull a box or a flat again.
35-25% of $3/mile freight is a lot of money. An extra .75 to $1.05 can buy the extra costs of running on your own AND provide a better life for ones family. Screw the petty bs of someone elses company, you dont NEED that security blanket. you just need to know what you are doing to an extent and in my case be pissed off enough to go get it. I know a lot of O/O who are paralized in place due to fear, lack of knowledge, or excuseitis. I was one of them, but i chose to better myself. There isnt a day that goes by where i dont learn something about this business.
When you really crave knowledge it is amazing how much of it is right under your nose and at your finger tips.Ranger Bob Thanks this. -
The agent never had to give him exclusive rights to the customers run in the first place; he did so due to him trusting 8891 to take care of his customer.
You are proposing rewarding that trust with stealing the customer?
I think it would be very short sighted to burn a bridge that did him so well to start with.Last edited: Oct 15, 2013

Yeah those LS agents have their networks amongst themselves. If you work for them a lot they talk especially if you do a good job. When you've got good contacts there LS is just as good for outside as it is from inside. That is why he shouldn't burn that bridge. Regardless if he doesn't need them you know it's still nice if one of them calls offering $5 a mile on 500 miles. Won't happen if he gets rep for trying to steal customers.
