Lot of guys very satisfied over there, let me say that right up front. There are worse places to be.
I did 4 1/2 years there, ending 1/31/12. In the end for me, it was too much NE running (and therefore a lot of wasted time burned up on the elogs), the continuing trend away from taking care of drivers, and not the least of all was a general lack of miles. In my last two years there, staying out a minimum of 21 to 24 days and sometimes longer, I had exactly one....ONE...week over 3000 miles, and it was 3003.
I lived in the Carolinas and was based out of Charlotte. I never once ran to CA. Furthest west I ever got was Denver. And that was the entire time I was there, not just the last two years.
There are some things they do well, and some they do not do well. I would not recommend the dry van division (where I was). Bulk might be a better choice, depending upon where you live.
Check out some of the SNI forums for more current info, and good luck. -
Personally i think its all about the OC you operate out of...im out of West Memphis...and i average between 2400-2900 miles and thats everyweek i have a full week...I average around 18-19 on my hometime weeks...Also when i went to the NE, i went to Maine...then down to PA and back to Illinois..So honestly i feel they are a decent company to be with..and thats my opinion

Thanks. I drove back in the 1980's (various types of equip.) and got out of it around 1990. Recently got CDL School paid for by the State from being unemployed. Finished all that, so here I am trying to sort out where to possibly go. Seems a lot more "Bad" out there than "Good".
Have talked with Schneider .... a few surprises / changes from the recruiting talk at the school....
1. First the Recruiter spoke of Dedicated, but when I called that evidently all pretty much dried up. At least at the Edwardsville Il OC.
2. When you go to orientation you have to purchase a king pin lock for the trailers - $60 My thought was ... Really lol
3. The largest inverter you can put in the truck is like 150 watts I think it was. That won't run much
I guess it just seems I read more bad than god with Schneider. But you can't believe everything U read on the ole innerweb lol
Appreciate the input guys !!!!! -
I'm surprised they actually told you UP FRONT. They have a reputation of using the "local/dedicated" thing to get you to orientation...THEN tell you there are no positions at that time, knowing you already burned bridges with your previous employer, and hope you stick around and take the gig THEY want you on. J.B. Hunt uses that practice as well. Ahhhh the good old "bait & switch".
I had a buddy that signed up for MIDWEST VAN. First run was to upstate New York (What???? Yep.....New York)....then he ran from Pennsylvania to North Carolina back and forth for 3 weeks until he turned his truck in at Carlisle, PA. and rented a car back home TO THE MIDWEST WHERE HE BELONGED.
Use that information any way you want. -
This is why no one should ever burn a bridge, regardless if they feel they are being "screwed", burn the bridge, go to another company, find out thing weren't all that bad, Now your really screwed, Might not hirer you back
-
Just tossing this in - Are you near May Trucking Company? I don't see your region on your profile. A classmate of mine is driving for them after a really bad experience with Swift. He has the occasional rough spot, but he is overall happier with May. If they are hiring in your area, they might be worth checking out.

Im in no way bothered by my Schneider bridge burning.I watched over 100 drivers come and go on the Home Depot account in my first year driving.
Were all those drivers bad apples?
What bad luck Schneider had hiring that many bad drivers, freaky!! -
Different strokes for different folks.
I did 1 year OTR for SNI, had no problems.
Did one year Regional with SNI, had no problems
I am now on a dedicated with SNI, and I love it. Dedicated is the place to be tho, home every day, off every weekend and most holidays, plus I make more than I did before.cementandrocks and EggoTrucker Thank this. -
I worked for Schneider from Jan to end of March. I thought it was a good company to work for. Pay wasn't as good as it could be but I got home whenever I wanted, maintenance took care of any problem I had no questions asked and I got all the miles I wanted. Only reason I quit is I got a kid at home and found a local job that pays almost 3X what Schneider was paying me.
As far as the kingpin lock goes, I didn't have to buy mine. They issued me one and said it would be deducted from my check. I never saw the deduction.Criminey Jade Thanks this.
