I'm not being a smart alack when I ask roughly what would an ecm tune and the b/w turbo cost and rough idea of how much improvement can he expect?
Yet another can of worms...MPG question

truckon Thanks this. -
Slow down to about 60-62 mph
Avoid idling.
Accelerate slowly.
Does that truck have egr? If so, something with turbo or egr could be bad or out of adjustment.
A friend with an egr series 60 went to the shop because he was getting 5.5 mpg. I think the mechanic made an adjustment to the turbo and/egr and my friend then got 6.5mpg.
I had another friend with a truck like yours (non-egr) same rear end ratio pulling a van. He could sometimes get 8mpg.
You may be able to get 6.5 by simply slowing down. The savings in fuel money would be significant. -
driving a hood-non aero. pulling flatbed freight-non aero.
when i did my training. my trainer had a brand new 2001 FL hood. pulling reefer. company trucks were goverened at 55. back then. company goal was 6.
her mileage. 5.5 in the mountains. 6.1 in the flatland. she had a dedicated run from salt lake city to spartanburg, sc.
trucks getting 7 was unheard of back then. i don't even think anyone had any consideration as to what to do to improve.
but then, fuel was also $1.15
only thing i found to improve my mileage. was to drop a gear and run at 1575 instead of 1400. -
Rebel 127 charges 6-900 depending on exactly what ecm you have and what kind of performance you expect. You can expect at least .75-1.0 mpg increase just from the Rebel tune, ASSUMING all the mechanicals are in order and you drive it like you have a little bit of sense. OP said his triuck has over a million on it, assuming that's all of it, I would start with a good overhead, and CAC and a set of injectors (they are wear items), then call Rebel. OP never said if he had a condo or midroof, but either way My brother-in-law pulls a flat with his XL Classic/Condo with an E model Cat with 18 spd. and 3.42 rears and averaged 6.2-6.5 depending on the load/weather. I think the OP got something else going on like CAC leak or turbo problems. Don't know anything about the exact turbo mentioned above, Rebel can answer that better than anyone.

Changing injectors will help some also turbo as well if hevent done so already will definately help but i dont know if anything will get u near 7 with a classic we have three with experienced drivers and fast diffs and they dont fo above 6.2
