I have a lot of respect for this type of attitude. Knowing the mistake was made and seeking the next step in putting it behind you. I am not sure what to advise you about your CDL, but I would personally start with calling or visiting my local DMV and asking them what steps I needed to take. Odds are you will need to visit them anyway to get a class C re-issued.
I wish you a all the luck in the world in sorting this out. I know I havent provided much help but I just wanted to offer my support and respect for what you are dealing with and the positive atitude you approach it with.

Well I don't know much as for i am young. But In Indiana you lose your driving privileges for 90days in most cases here and most companies won't you for 3-5 years depending on their insurance. So you can figure on taking a break. Good luck! Glad no one was hurt!!!!

Either way you got caught and have to go with the punches. I'm sorry that some have not read your post and saw where you're in treatment. That a good step not for the job but for your life if alcohol is out of control.
Nobody is complely clean and I'm sure in the past there's been alot of drivers that have done just what you've done. But you can not do that in today's world.
The FMCSR says you'll loose your CDL for 3 years just for going over the limit. So you'll have to find other work. I'm sorry for you that your carrer has ended like this. Of course if you haven't been to court get a lawyer and hope he can save your job.
I'm right along with everyone else about drunk drivers. When I was driving I was always on the look for impared drivers more than most just because I drove in Las Vegas NV. In my years driving there I'm directly responsible for having more than 20 vehicles pull over for DUI. But I also recognize someone who has admitted their mistake and wants to go clean. It's just so happens that what you did is very serious and if convicted you will loose your CDL.
I would wait until they contact you about your CDL. If you have questions on your form do not lie. Good luck. -
Well, it's ultimately up to you. But truthfully if you were caught in a CMV with alcohol in your system, your career is, for all intents and purposes; finished (for the next several years).
You can turn it in, or keep it as a reminder. -
Sweetness546, sweetheart get help now! I and a friend were coming home (Key West, U.S. 1) one night 20 years ago. I was rear-ended by a drunk driver. I suffer pain because of this drivers careless disregard for others today 20 years later. Because of the injuries I received in the accident when there is a front the pain can be excrutiating. Yes, I could get meds from the doctor for my pain but then I would not be able to work or drive either a truck or a car. I live for Aleve, Excedrin and Asprin. This driver had 4 previous DUI when he hit me. Needless to say he had no insurance and no money. I was stuck with the bills. Brand new car (Plymouth Acclaim) only a month old, didn't even have a 1000 miles on it when totalled. I still owed 5000.00 out of pocket after my insurance paid on it.
My nephew, 19 years old, a twin, killed by a drunk driver just a few years back. I cannot begin to tell you the effect Dannys death has had on his mother and father (my brother). His brother is like a shell of the boy he was before Dannys death.
Ask yourself do you want to be the cause of a familys grief?
Do you want to cause someone to be in pain for the rest of their life because of a decision you made to drink and drive.
Do you understand what I am saying? Either of these drivers that have hurt me and my family could have been you! You were lucky this time, but what about the next.
P.S. I had my neck broke in the accident. My friend had her back broke. She is disabled to this day.
Get help before it is too late.
As for your CDL, keep it. We all make mistakes, however we need to learn from those mistakes. You can use it for other jobs that do not require over the road trucking. Maintence crews for the state make good money and require CDLs. Just learn from your mistake. -
You might as well turn them in. No one (major) will even look past your refusal to test. That's your second and final strike in their eyes.
Your CDL days are over for about 10 years. -
but danc694u couldn't he use his CDL for other jobs? Like road maintence or dump truck, trash truck, ect?
-
Probably. But, any company that hires him will have to insure him.
The insurance company will have the final say. Unless he is willing to pay the differance in rates for the company, I doubt the job will be tendered.
It's not that companies wouldn't hire him. It's that they won't, because of excessive cost.
A clean driving record is cheaper (sometimes) than a wrecked record. -
It is really sad but you are right.
