Hi, I am looking to purchase an older day cab tractor and trailer to do some local work. The oppurtunity to make money is there but I am having trouble with insurance quotes. I am 22 yrs old with 2 years of truck driving experience. I have a clean driving record but can't seem to get a quote from anyone because I am too young they say. However, I got one quote so far at $9000/ year. Can anyone give me some advice here? Do I need to wait until I am more experienced? Do I need to keep trying other insurance companies? Do I need to look for older model trucks?

Age of truck is not the issue it is your age so looking for a older truck is not going to help. Keep looking, manipulate the words in Google such as Commercial insurance, CDL insurance, semi insurance ext... Try calling flyingJ they offer a insurance broker program. (most are insurance brokers anyways).

Some friends have told me there is a large difference in the amount of premium they have had to pay, some say 40 to 50% difference in the amount.
The savings was realized by switching companies and,or brokers.
Insurance agents have become mostly brokers lately, finding a company to match with a client. Good luck in finding something.
