I have never recomended Lucas, the engine is OIL cooled, and made to run 15/40 or thiner oil, if you thicken the oil you will change the spray caracteristics of the oil and may do a lot more damage.
We did not have anybody using Lucas in the truck engines we worked on we did have a guy add it to an 18 speed Eaton about 10 years ago it failed and when the top was removed the gear guy called eaton and they sent a representative, he just looked in and rejected the warrenty coverage. The Lucas changed the oil flow threw the transmision and it overheated. That truck ran the Cokahalla, heavey loads and steep hills.
On you oil usage if after an oil change it does not use oil for 5,000 miles then you should be changing the oil at 10,000 miles or earlyer. You might want to try shell oil it seems to lengthen the time before oil usage starts.
Just a thought! No spell check

Cant fill our 2005 12.7 above the add mark or it blows it out the tube. Before and after the over haul.
If it's not going out side on the ground you probably have a liner are two scored.

Does the oil have a burn smell to it? That is a good way to tell if you have a badly gaulded liner
