I am currently a motor transport operator in the Marine Corps with my military dump truck(MK29) license and and over 2.5 million pounds of gravel spread loaded over my 3 and half years and a combat deployment. Will any potential employer care about this experience or any military fixed bed truck driving experience?

I like the idea but I just want to work for a good company doin long haul or regional runs to get some miles under my belt

Many companies have veterans programs. Contact a few and check what the different rules are. Schneider tanker division, Melton Truck Lines flatbed & several others.

Many companies will care that you will be a veteren, but if you switch to 18 wheels you will need to relearn how to drive. if you staying dump trucks, ofcourse it will help

I currently have all the licenses in my motor pool(hwmmv,7ton of all types, LVSR which replaced the 48s but still use the same 870 trailer, bus and wrecker) and base motors took out white gear tractor trailers away about 2 years ago. However, I'm about to enroll at a local community college to get my CDL
OORAH,

sounds like a plan......I never went to a school other than Motor T school (at Camp Lejeune) and got my CDL on my own in Cali. I read the CDL book cover to cover many times over. I'll tell you to do the same thing but going to the community college will give you a leg-up. There's certainly a difference between military and civilian but having said that the experience you get in the Corps is something most don't get. All the licenses you have are worth something, at least in my book. I've still got mine somewhere. Keep it so you can show a potential employer what you were qualified to drive. In my case I went OTR as soon as I got out. The company stuck me with a trainer for 4 days and cut me loose. It was a small company though which is what I would suggest to you. Stay away from the "bottom feeders", you're better than that. Good luck to you, let me know if you have any questions.

I spent 4yrs in the Corps as a 3531 as well. Some companies will count this as experience, especially the good one's. Some might not, just depends. If you're in the Stumps, or Pendleton check out California Career School, that's where I got my CDL. Costs 4500 bucks total, and guess what your yearly TA covers that, may as well use it, with very decent instructors. Good luck with everything bud
