Does anyone lease their DOT / MC authority? I'm looking for the option to run under an established authority and pay someone a percentage of my loads to provide an MC number and do the bookkeeping. I want to run an epedite van.

    Thanks

Usually you need to know someone with authority to get them to lease you on and do your own thing. Any company will lease you on and run ya but if you are looking to do your own thing you will need to be buddy buddy with them. I did it for a few friends but there is liability issues with letting someone run around the country with your numbers on there truck

In order to get your authority issued, you have to provide proof of the insurance.

I see that now. He would better off checking the expediter sites.

I have insurance. That's not an issue. What I would like to avoid is long layovers and empty backhauls. So I would like to find a company that would allow me to go on the internet an find a load when they don't have any or suggest I come back empty. I don't know if companies support a driver who has initiative. I may have to get my own MC number but all that paperwork would require I hire a secretary.

Just lease onto a expedite company. When you are searching for one to lease onto, ask them if they allow you to "trip lease". Many comapnies do allow trip leasing. What this means in a nutshell is; if your company has no frieght for you to backhaul then you find someone who does have a load. You then "trip lease" to that company so you can haul their load. Trip leasing is just temporarily leasing to a companies authority(usually just long enough to do one load).
