DUI/Drug, felony and trucking facts.

I also have had a dui on a motorcycle. Lost my job and cdl for a year. Kept applying to companies and got a job 1.5yrs after getting my license back. I dont recommend drinking and driving anything but with hard work you can get back into trucking.

 

thanks for the post this is my problem ive been driving for 35+yrs i plead guilty to a dui in 2009 and have been running just along the gulf coast for the last 2yrs this job is coming to and end soon now iam wanting to go back over the road even with all my exp/lifetime accident free /0 points/no tickets in over 10 yrs/never failed a drug test since they started doing them(yes i was driving before cdl & and drug test started) everyone i talk to say the same thing 5or7yrs i need to find one of them 3yr companies you talked about at lest till next april when i hit the 5yr mark anybody know of any? by the way i learned my lesson and havent had a drink since that night in 2009.

 

ok ive got to say something now i am one of those who got a dui 1 time in my car i should have fought it longer but the longer you fight it the more money it takes that was in 2009 since that night night i have not had one sip of alcohol 4 and a half yrs now ive drove a truck since 1976 and have never had an accident or damaged any equipment in over 2 million miles i see things going on out there that makes me wonder how this person is even allowed in a truck and i've seen lots of deaths and damage out there that had nothing to do with drinking so my question is if you hurt someone due to inexperience are you entitled to a second chance

You can do everything right, all it takes is one major mess up to ruin all you achieved. As far as OTR they weigh your experience over the past 3 years OTR. So in their eyes you have zero experience. If you can get accepted past the DUI hurdle there are companies that offer refresher programs. That means going out with a trainer for a short period. Not only do you have to find a 3 yr DUI company, you have to find one that offers refresher training. That really narrows you down. If I knew one I would tell you. You're gonna have to make it to the 5 year mark.

The severe punishment is suppose to be a deterrent to keep people from doing severe wrong things. Weighing out I deserve a second chance is after the fact thinking and the original deterrent has to stick. If one can't do the time don't do the crime.

 

in 2004 I failed a pre employment drug test for swift. I was 25, smoked pot and I thought being clean for a few months was enough to pass. It was not. Now Im 34 and have not smoked that stuff since. I try to find the good in every situation. The good that came out of it back in 2004 was that there was one less person that did not need to be one the road. I was in no way ready to be given the task and being responsible of driving a rig. My focus in life was not there. I still wanted to party and hang out with friends. I was not ready for trucking. Now at age 34 I am ready. Will that failed pre employment test come back to haunt me? Do I have a chance?

 

You'd Be Surprised. I started a thread giving an apology to my peers not to long ago for a DUI arrest, and more than a few have asked why. The date was July 31 1993. Me and another driver doing deliveries together for GE appliances in San Diego co. We had the radio on as we unboxed the new refrigerator on a service exchange at a residence home. As we were working, an announcement came over the radio, the police where looking for someone that had just hit and killed two young boys coming home from a 7-Eleven. I recall the man on the radio (KGB I think) saying just the two cups from the 7-Eleven had been left behind after the clean up at the impact location. The start of a good day had been soured. Me and my co worker, and the rest of our community had taking a big hit. For the rest of the year, all the talk on the radio and TV was about drunk driving, after the police found the young female driver six hours later drinking a beer and crying with a .28 BAC. I had a strong hatred toward drunk drivers for a long time after that. As time went on, that day faded away for most of us, and I thought never to look back upon it till now. One of the court requirements for first offence is to attend a MADD victim impact panel. About 180 to 200 in a group to hear three or four victims tell their story. This man started to speak that caught my attention, more so than the others. The mans name was Larry, the father of one of the two boys. He told the story of how his son Sean had started his day B/4 he was killed, then offered his forgiveness to the woman that killed his son and his friend. So I felt compelled to give an apology, because I do not ever want to be on the receiving end of that kind or type of forgiveness. So new drivers, and some older drivers, there comes a time to Humble yourself. THATS WHY ! Safe Travels To All Of You !!!

 

I got a felony dui 21 years ago. I am thinking about getting my cdl and a hazmat certification. Will the felony effect the possiability of getting my hazmat?
