Not being from Dallas, I can't make a recommendation. However, you can certainly figure out whether they know anything about the transportation industry just by asking them about how the per diem deduction works...
$59 per day, each day you're away from your tax home, and you can claim a half-day on arrival and departure days. 80% of that amount can be deducted for transportation workers... it's different than office workers. You do not need to keep receipts to claim this. If they can't answer this correctly, pass on them. -
I thought you were required to keep copies of your logs to prove the numbers of days you are claiming in case of an audit.
-
Yep... but you don't need the receipts.

Maybe OOIDA will recommend someone. Check their website.

I can recommend you a person, who was a trucker o/o and he's a lawyer, and an accountant, if you want his number, just PM me.
-
You can also post this on some job hiring website to fasten your needs.
-
Logs are nice, but you can use other supporting documents such as a journal.
-
Trip reports, fuel journal... anything that shows you were away from your tax home. Elogs are a pain, but you can get access to the stored records. We scan our trip reports so they end up in electronic format anyway... I just keep a compressed copy of the PDFs.t bird Thanks this.

I've used an accountant out of Oregon the passed two years. He's been excellent in my opinion. He charged me $175 last year and $225 this year. He bills by the half hour. If you want his info just PM me.
