Figures... I got my prehire letter today for Schneider its a dedicated account with Georgia Pacific, I also received an offer letter for a local job hauling propane to customer homes. Schneider is going to pay .30 cents a mile, they say I will get 2500 miles. Local job is $15.50 an hour, about what I was making before when I got laid off in June.

Had to stop by the shop yesterday to get the blinker relay replaced in my truck, mechanic told me my truck is on the trade list, wonder how long that will take.

not bad to start. did you ask what the raise schedule was? Average miles are more easily met on dedicated. On my account , I'm closer to the high end of mileage range given. Its reliable money.

I have no information on Georgia Pacific other then they haul paper products, the recruiter did not have much information about them other that he was told that experienced get 2500+ and new hires get around 2300 miles. Oh I will be getting $0.28 per diem. He also said I would have some live unloads, but had no idea of what percentage.

per diem for three months til the opt out date. Was nice to see that untaxed but..... GP is a good account. See them rolling day cabs (new and newer too) from a Michigan plant to places all over the region.

Heres the thing, after 6 months on an account/board you can transfer to another account/board thats open or go a whole different route. I think there are more options available after some time with us. BUT the local home daily gig looks attractive too.

The question is what do YOU want to do? Whats your goal?

    Grimacus Thanks this.

Well my dream gig would be to haul milk products. The local propane job pay is ok, figured it would be higher hauling a flammable liquid/gas but its a start. I would be losing tractor trailer experience as the propane truck is basically a bobtail with a huge container attached. What scares me about the OTR trucking industry is the turn over rate, hate to lose my unemployment and find out that I cannot handle the OTR lifestyle.

but that dedicated isnt exactly OTR. true you may be out for the week but you are home for the reset on the weekends. Like I said its also reliable money . in addition , with the dedicated exp it should count as OTR exp. That can translate to what you do want to do in the future. What do you mean by milk products? bulk liquid? or packaged, etc?

Bulk, the big shiny trucks either straight or trailer. I loved making faces on the sides as a kid as my dad drove past one.
