Well I have the weekend to decide, I don't know why this sorta thing happens, I get laid off, live off unemployment, search for related work for 4 months and then go to trucking school to get my CDL, thought I had a job at FedEx but was told I needed more commercial trucking experience so back to square one and then more searching and then boom 2 job offers on the same day. I was all prepared to start Schneider orientation this Tuesday, but then this local driving job offer shows up on the table. My decision will be based on what would be better for long term job security, I'm 40 now and would like to at least drive professional for the next 15-20 years.

If you paid for school yourself, SNI gives upto 6K in tuition reimbursement. Good to keep in mind. 150 a month untaxed in a seperate check. Can come in handy.

WIA paid for my schooling as I'm receiving unemployment benefits so no help there. I wish I went to another school though, out of the 30 day program, I think I drove 3 days on the main roads, the rest were spent sitting on a park bench or practicing going in reverse in a straight line.

the reverse is very important!!!! the driving forward part while you do need to be attentive to surroundings isnt all that hard. turns need to be taken as wide as you can and slowly.

IMO, Grim SNI could set you up for what you want to do in the future. Plenty of bulk opportunities available right now. Better freight for the most part than van and I guess a decent check above van too at least for a beginner. Have to check with ethos on that one. PM him. He's a TE for bulk and has been very helpful to others on here.

Recruiter told me I would have to move for a tanker position with Schneider. My wife is a manager for FedEx so we can't move. Have been speaking to some of my family and they are urging me to take the local job, I guess they don't like the idea of leaving my wife alone at home for several days at a time, we don't have any kids or family living here in Texas. I heard some dedicated accounts can get you home daily but I cannot find any information about Georgia Pacific but it looks to be regional with several states involved so no way can I get home daily.

Well from my internet research on Georgia Pacific, it would seem most drivers hate going to GP because of really long wait times. Hmm could be why Schneider is offering a $2500 sign on bonus. Looks like you mostly pickup from a GP plant and then deliver to a GP warehouse or Walmart type of store.
