Glad I didn't go with L/S! I almost got the jump in gear! I almost jumped off the bridge into the L/S Ocean!

NY requires WC, otherwise he could have OCC/ACC at about half that price. A lot of companies that you lease to require this as well.
There is nothing stopping you from running your own plate at Landstar, Mike is just to lazy to get his own. The $200 in permits charged here covers things like UCR which was $80 for a truck and trailer per year. Add in IFTA decals, NYHUT, NJ tax, etc and $200 is a bargain.
E logs, well if Mike hadn't screwed up, he'd still be on paper. New hires don't have that option, but it is what it is. Given that a new entrant MC# will have an audit within 18 months, a log auditor is a pretty good investment, and they run about $30 a month.
Group IFTA sucks for sure, but I'm to lazy to file my own, if LS would allow it. If I were getting 8-9mpg, I would look into it.
All in all, the only thing that matters at the end of the day is profit per mile, no matter where you are. I make sufficient profit per mile, and have all of the freedom I want ( I just took two months off where I only pulled 4 locals, no issue from LS). I've run my own authority before, and the costs at LS are nothing compared to actual costs of running your authority properly. Especially if you forget, or did not know about AR and KS Ad Valorem taxes, NY HUT, NJ corporate tax, etc. It's even worse if you go through an IRP/IFTA audit with a revenue agent from your state. They are there to make your state money. Mike ####### about LS EVERY DAY, but he's still here. I dare him to get his own numbers. In fact, if he does and gets through his new entrant audit, I'll give him a $20 comcheck. How about it LS8891???WesternWheels2, txdirtroad and LSAgentOZR Thank this. -

40calglock is calling out ls8891. I kinda like this! -
Works extremely well for me as an outside carrier for LS I get excellent rates from a few of their agents. Granted, since our saftey rating took a dump we are only able to work with them on a load by load basis now. Even so I'm 100% positive my advice applies to being an inside BCO as well. The successful ones will tell you it's spot on advice. Good communicators who always do what they say they will without anyone having to call asking where they are at will never have a problem making good connections and keeping profitable rates coming to the truck. Losers who can't figure out what real service is will attribute that to favoritism or some other sad excuse.
