I run Windows 8.1 on a virtual machine. That said, I did upgrade and had no major problems but be prepared to revisit the software store and reload a lot of apps since they will now be invalid including most of Microsoft's apps. The reloading of the apps was more hassle than anything else but only goes to show you that even this upgrade was not well thought out. As the article said, make sure your hardware is compatible.

Upgraded to 8.1 and so far, so good. No issues and some of the bugs seem to have been repaired.

If you're running a touchscreen device, or anything with 8.0, upgrade to 8.1. 8.1 was a HUGE bugfix release.
Anything else, stay with 7.
FYI, you can legally use your 8 license to run 7. Search "Windows 8 downgrade". -
Got a Laptop a couple months ago, made sure it had Winblows 7.

No issues here doing the 8.1 service pack. I find it better for the touchscreen tablet, but still prefer Win7 on the non-tablet stuff so far.

Upgraded to 8.1
But wasn't having any problems with 8.0
Still liked XP the best....... -
does xp still work????
xp can't touch 7.
