That's the way to be really satisfied with life. Which is what I plan on doing. Build a greenhouse and grow good food, for us and the neighbors. Gravel the neighbors driveway, (it's a mile long and they can't afford to maintain it very well.) maybe hire someone to help get their house addition finished faster. I don't want new cars, boats, fancy house, none of that junk. About all I want is to travel with my horse and do some trail riding here and there. And driving truck will give me opportunity to attend horse training seminars and similar events on occasion. I'm planning on attending one in CA next spring, will get a load going that way the week before, spend the weekend at the event, and pick up another load and head home the next week. That way I get paid to do what would normally cost a good bit. Being an O/O will give me the flexibility to pick a load going where I want to go when I want to go there. On occasion I will get a one way load and pick up something for our own operation for the return trip. I think if we take our job seriously, take personal interest in getting stuff moved safely for those who we are moving it for. It makes for happy customers and the ability to take pride in a job well done. I know a lot of shipping doesn't have much personal connection to it, but what I plan on shipping will have a lot of personal contact with people who greatly value what I'm hauling for them, and taking personal interest in them and their objects of adoration will be appreciated by many of them. What I'd really like is shipping horses for breeders and trainers, and that would take a lot more attention to care for the load, just because it's a live load that needs regular feed and water, and rest time. but it's a very limited thing, might be hard to get regular work along that line. It'd be more of a part time thing in between other stuff.

Yes very proud, grew up in garages and truck shops, had my first beer in the back of a 64 ford pick-up at age 5, this is more of a life style not a career like the good ol gov is making it out to be. This has to be something you enjoy and don't buy a truck if you don't like getting dirty and turning wrenches.

When I deliver a load, as I get out and walk away, I always look back at the truck, and think to myself " I delivered this load, on my truck, in a safe manner, and made a profit doing it. Not many folks can do that ". That makes me proud of what I did.
Then I go back to my normal self, but for a few seconds I am proud of what I do.
