I have a 2013 double bunk full sized Freightliner. The truck is has 106,000 miles now and every time I turn the steering wheel towards the left one full turn, it makes a sound similar to metal rubbing together. Steering pump and fluid levels look fine. Since this just started 2 days ago should I wait a few days to see if it continues or should I call it in to get looked at? This is the second Brand new Freightliner I've driven that has issues. The last one had all kind of issues including the Onguard which slammed on the brakes and I had to go on workman's leave for 2 months for whiplash. So I'm a little more paranoid about potential repair issues.

Get it checked, sounds like a spring hanger is loose or broken
Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
Thanks the last FL I had needed to get the steering pump replaced, what the heck is wrong with FL, putting out trucks with the same issues year after year?
-
Don't fool around with steering issues, WC won't do you any good if you loose the steering and crash and die.
Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
Yeah.....knowing how some of these companies are they may not pay to send your remains back. Lol
luvtotruck Thanks this. -
WC won't buy you a box to put you in the ground! Get it checked, Tell the safety Department if it was their car they would have it on a hook on the way to a shop, Tell them you are willing to drive it to the FL Shop.

If it is a popping it will be your bushing in your spring hangers... I had a freightliner one time that had this happen several times... They put no grease inserts on them and they wore out every 40000 miles.. I finally fixed it myself and put inserts on it.. got another 500000k out of them... Whatever it is don't play with it my friend.. Don't want to read about you dying on here..

It's kind of a growling grating noise but only when I turn to the left. I'm dropping the truck off at the Atlanta Ga OC today. At least if I get stuck for a few days I can stay at my cuisins apartment.

An update. They "fixed" the truck last night. The two steering tires were replaced (no surprises there because the alignment was off. And I told them this). They did a wheel alignment and they changed the power steering pump fluid. They found nothing wrong with the power steering pump. The noise is still there but it's not as loud as it was before. If this was my truck I'd go to Freightliner for a second opinion. But these companies want to do the cheapest thing first. I haven't driven the truck yet but once I do, and if I don't notice any improvement. I'll just call Schneider maintenance again.

Did the great mechanics who worked on the truck ever think to pull the wheel and check the wheel bearings?
This sounds like a wheel bearing problem.
By the way, just to let you know that if it is a power steering issue, it would happen when the wheel is turned both ways and standing still.
