Are the ISX's used in Australia the same as ours? I was checking out trucks on a used truck website and a majority of the new trucks down there are ISX powered. I cant see them being popular if they have the same issues we do. I just figured with the weights they gross and the vast nothingness some guys drive to they would want something that holds up better.

I would highly doubt they are but who knows. I would agree with you on that definitely don't want something thats going to break down when its 120 outside and nobody withing 1000 miles. Im going to make the assumption that they're built differently and don't have all the emissions crap on them. Plus their power ratings are usually different from what I've seen. Last one I seen was a 668 Detroit in a cab over freightliner. Granted that's a Detroit but they don't even make a 668 horse Detroit over here to my knowlege.

I really have to ask, how long y'all have been driving? A cummins short block and new head WILL run 28000.00. A new ISX, installed, is going to run 50k...that's just the way it is. I don't care what kind of engine you have, they are going to break down. Turbos, coolers, pumps. They all wear out. They are designed to last about 700,000 miles. If you get more than that you are a lucky driver. How do you think those companies would stay in business if the engines and their components lasted a million 5? Get real.

I have seen ISX's at 2 different independent shops in high 20's just for the parts but they were hurt bad. Both had been into out on the road somewhere recently when they went down, they say shoddy work caused it. My sons truck is a 1MM C16 we bought it with a bad motor for pay off, as simple as air filter can be to install previous owner mucked that up and dusted it. We done liner kits, reman head, all injectors, rear structure, rods mains, and cam one lobe had a rough spot. After all cores were taken back and approved it was less than 15000 with genuine cat parts from riggs. We had a nearly new turbo, on a core engine I bought already. We probably could have got by a lot cheaper but I'm not going back in it when it oughta be working, thats a double loss now we don't have worry about it.

Have 1 customer with some freight to CA so was calling yesterday asking questions about newer motors etc. One 2011 had a ISX(DPF only, not SCR) & they said they would have around 20 of them coming in @ around 500,000 miles. Team driven company. All motors have been opened up in the 300,000 mile range for new cylinder packs/rings & some head work? :biggrin_25521:

The point of the above is not to bash Cummins only. It is just that none of this stuff is worth the cost vs risk for the single truck buyer.

In aus we still have the dohc isx and signatures. It was egr only cm870 from 08 till 10 and egr dpf cm871 from 10 till now. Kenworth have just released the the isxe5 which is the single cam isx15 but scr only and no vgt just a waist gated turbo. So in Kenworth's you get a choice of egr and dpf or scr. No other manufacture is offering the new isx yet.

We really only have turbo, egr and on the really heavy stuff 200,000 lb plus dropped liner problems with the isx.

You will see a lot of ISX's because there arn't many other options. We have only just got the mx13, we don't have the maxxforce, we can still get the c15 but only in a CAT truck which is just a navistar, Volvo has Volvo's you can't get a isx in a Volvo anymore over here. Mack has there mp8 and 10 which are just d13 and d16 and isx. Mercedes has there engines so does Scania. Iveco has the cursor and isx. Western star and Freightliner you can get dd13 and 15 as well as the isx.

But a lot of people have been turned away from the cummins because of the egr and dpf problems but in a kw you don't have a choice as the mx13 doesn't really work when when you are pulling 60 odd tonne, it's fine for single work but not doubles.
