After my first week on the road (i'm on E-log) with this new HOS in USA, i would say the 34 hours reset for US hours is dead !!! , doesn't make sense anymore. Even if you drive 4-6 days/week and 2 days off, you won't reset the US hours, can be done only once in 168 hours ( 7 days).

how do you manage to run through the night when you need 36 hours off to change your regular start time (duty cycle) ? either theres a lot of downtime during the week or theres a fair bit of fudgeing/nudging out there

Start time and Cycle (i.e., 1 or 2) are unrelated and the start time of a driver's work shift is likewise independent of the start time of the "day." The time a driver's work shift starts and/or ends does not necessarily correspond with a "day" which is the 24-hour period assigned by the company (which most companies leave as the default calendar day, from 00:00 to 24:00). A reset is not required if a driver's work shift start time changes, but a reset is required if the company changes when the driver's "day" starts, eg., if a company decides their driver's 24-hour "day" starts at 04:00 rather than 00:00. A driver can work through the end of their "day" (i.e., through midnight), so long as they don't violate the 13/14/16 in a "day."Last edited: Jul 13, 2013

thx for your response, I wasn t certain but your post does confirm my recollection of a reset period requirement for a moderate change to a day start time. having to drive at night is no big deal if your body is used to that shift. it really does sound to me like kriska dispatchers require drivers to make that adjustment themselves. I think I saw a $320 fine involved with that. I believe folks should be aware a requirement to drive through the night might not be a harmless request. fellow drivers should be aware that sometimes bending over backwards to accomodate the company's needs, is the same as bending over forwards....

thx Johny41- I don't like to say things I am uncertain of, but yah, really, companies ought to be the ones paying for the fines for driver violations...fire the driver if he is giving them a headache; because it seems to me that as most drivers would seem to like to keep a fairly steady working schedule, any illegal variance would be at the behest of the company. further, as most companies make the pick up /delivery schedule in contact with the client that they are the ones who have determined to burn the driver in favor of the clients wishes as opposed to the drivers legal requirement. any driver who agrees to violate his legal obligation for his master is a fool. my company has it's schedule, and I ve been called to the carpet to explain why I wasn t able to meet that schedule- I made no apologizes- I am driving a truck, not flying a helicopter. I could see they didn t like to hear that but they could not argue anything to that point. have the balls to stand your ground driver, when you are asked/told to do something illegal- no company is worth ruining your cvor for.

Owner Ops beware of KPVS, mixed loads as long as you make them money first then you may get the scatter good load , but typicaly the trailers make more money then the truck pulling them, mainly an out west lanes , his own company trucks only pull the us big $$ loads. I'm on with Tri Line pulling bulkers , so far so good , friendly dispatch, and everybody will take the time to help you out and answer questions. I think theres a yard in winnepeg , but the two main yards are in Calgary and Edmonton. There's nothing like being completely satisfied with the company your working for!!
