    I don't know who mentioned "The 12R24.5 takes a oddball wide rim that is not easy to come by." but I found in the 2011 Tire & Rim Association Yearbook, it says that a 24.5" x 8.25" is approved for a 12R24.5. It does fit a 24.5" x 9" but i've never seen one of those.

    It does "fit", just like an 11 will fit on a 7.5" rim. Its just squeezed on the rim, and then tends to wear the center worse.
