Times being tuff in construction, are making me consider driving. I did it for about a 1 1/2 years back in the early 90s. Mostly day trips, with some overnight trips. I'm sure my old experience won't get me far in so far as choices of companies. I do still hold a CDL A. {for what that's worth}
I'm 58 now and expected to be in better shape than I am. {financially} Am I barking up the wrong tree? Will companies consider someone my age? I think it is hurting me looking for another carpentry job.
Will age hurt me?

Hey clayshot; I'm a 66 retired stone mason/cement finisher outta jersey and been driving since '09 off and on for various companies. Memorize the eyechart or have eyeglasses that can get you thru it. At most truckstops they have parking for the handicapped truck drivers. THAT, should sum it up.

These companies are so desperate for drivers, all that matter is that you can pass the DOT physical and drug screen.
-
the only problem is the recent experience thing
I had to do a refresher course to even be considered by most companies -
I'm 55 and I had 8 pre-hire letters while I was still in CDL school. My age did not appear to be a handicap in obtaining a job.

Actually it will more than likely be a plus......maturity goes a long way to making a good driver. little things that really set younger guys off , don't seem so important once you have a day or two behind you , and know in the big scheme of things the small stuff don't matter. Good Luck !

Your age is not a negative factor. I am 60 and have been hired by 3 different companies when I walked in the door (subject to background check and driving record check). If you have a clean driving record, and have no criminal background, and no drug convictions, you will be in the top 25% of all driver applicants. They will snap you up before the end of the week!!!
I still get multiple emails every day from when I applied for one job online a few months ago. My one application through CareerBuilder must have gotten sent to over 25 companies online. -
Matski do you mind sharing the school and the 8 companies that pre-hired you ?

Thanks for the responses guys. I figured I will have to at the very least, take some type of training. I'm sure lots of things have changed since I drove years ago.
I filled out a generic info app on a website, companies have been blowing up my email and phone all day. Kinda took me by surprise. I'll respond to each of them tomorrow when my head stops spinning.
I'll see where I stand when the dust settles. Right now I want to do some research about each company. -
What you received was an automated email.But exspect to get calls tomorrow.You'll have to fill out their application either by them faxing it to you or go to their website.
