I delivered to Cardinal Health in Waukegan yesterday morning. They told me to drop the trailer in the door and pick up an empty. I told dispatch that and they had no clue that they had any empty trailers there. They thought it was a live unload. They told me to pick up any trailer and let them know which one I got. As I went looking 3 of the 4 empties were 4 digit numers and 1 was a newer one. Obviously I picked up the newer one. After reading your posts about the older ones I am glad I did that....

Brand newbies. I am not as bright as EMCHIEF as I used to just pick the first trailer I saw or the one that was easiest to maneuver to. It took about 3 months but I now inspect and pick a good one (Manufacture year is stamped on the plate near airline hook up). If I could figure out what would be the quietest refer unit, I would likely pick by that!

I have quoted the TransAm personal conveyance rule in past posts. You can not PC after you make a delivery and are on your way to make your next pick up, as making a pick up is company business.

HOWEVER you can PC to go take a shower at a truck stop or eat at a restaurant NEAR to your next pick up.

So after you are empty and are given your next dispatch, pick a truck stop near to your next pick up, then send your DM a note to the effect “I will go to XX truck stop and take a shower and then I will be on this next load like a fat kid on a cup cake”. This is documents that you will be undertaking personal business (a shower) and therefore meets the rules to PC. Go to this truck stop, if you shower or not, change your status from "PC" to “off duty” at least for a few minutes, then go on the drive line for the last few miles to make your pick up. It will give you an extra 10 hours or more on your weekly clock.

This type of PC choices ends once you send your l-call after being dispached.

EMCHIEF, should you happen to get a ticket ....and I don't know that you will ....fight it. The two things that you always protect are your time and your CDL. You may be able to get it dismissed or changed/reduced to something that would not show up on your license or carry any CSA points.

Passport,I am so glad that you put this on here again about being able to PC. Not being a driver, I always hesitate to say anything because I am afraid that I would get it wrong. I did wonder a couple of pages back when jaso36 said that he had delivered and did not have enough time left to get home if he could have used Personal Conveyance to do so.

No probs HTQ, hope you are well. I am now heading south and enjoying the warmer temps after being in the cold north and northeast over the last 3 weeks.

I stopped at a Walmart to pick up a few items and got a reminder that Halloween is not anational holiday. People still have to go to work:

Doing well, passport. It has been warm in Missouri but dreary and raining. My youngest wants to go trick or treating tomorrow so I am hoping the weather improves. When they were little I always had the final say in their costumes ....and of course they were adorable! :yes2557: This year my beautiful daughter bought her own .....she will be a werewolf .....where did I go wrong?!:biggrin_2556: 103013211633 (1).jpg

Passport, have you had the joy of hauling a 2013 trailer yet? Those TK Precedent reefers are soooooo quiet! And pretty! Lol. I might be an oddball, but I prefer reefers that will wake the dead. Absolutely love them. I sleep like a baby when I have a dinosaur reefer. I tend to favor reefers on 2005 trailers. I like them new enough to have the easy button setup, but old enough to be loud as heck.

There were a couple 4-digits that pulled decently. The black numbers tended to be better than the blue, it seemed. But for the most part I hate these rickety old garbage cans. I deleted the message about the trailer to pick up. I havent decided if I will "forget" about it or try to get them to make it worth the headache. I always havr problems with them. One day I went as far as writing "This trailer is a piece of s###" on the back of the doors n the dirt because I was so disgusted by it. I ended up dragging it to Olathe too, lol.

This. When Im getting unloaded I usually send a 037 to check my preplan. Then pick out my truck stop. And as soon as I send my empty call I hit PC and haul like my trailer's on fire til I get to my truck stop. Ive also PCed 75+ miles in pursuit of a bubble bath between loads. Thats my story and Im stickin to it.

Well, Cranky Yankee, you should be in a good mood tonight. Congrats on your Red Sox win .....I couldn't bear to watch tonight. Simple truth is the better team won.
