Hey guys, Im new to all this and currently in school working on my license. I cant wait to be on the road here in about a month or two. Im a nerd when it comes to video games, so Im definitely bringing my xbox with me. I was wondering if it was possible at all to play Xbox Live out on the road? Ive heard some truck stops have wifi, but have heard mixed reveiws as far as how fast the connection is. Is it possible to play under a good connection rather it be a truck stop or phone hotspot (if possible to run xbox live on)?
Btw, sorry if this has been asked before, couldnt find anything when i searched.
Xbox Live in the truck?

I'm in school as well and like you a gamer, its definitely possible depending on your phone carrier, wifi when you can get it etc. But make sure your getting your rest out there, be safe!

I use a verizon hotspot, and the wifi plug in antenna on my xbox. Works well, occasional lag depending on what area Im in. But good enough to play Madden and Battlefield 4 online. If you get a wifi hotspot device, buy it online yourself and then buy a package from Verizon. Otherwise if you get it from them you will be locked in too a contract.

I am sure it is possible at truck stops. However, I dont believe you will have that much time if you run hard.
WorldofTransportation Thanks this. -
I use it on my day off. Truck stop wifi lags too bad to play online. Plus some of them are a pain in the butt to hook up to.

and truck stop wifi can be expensive depending on plans and the month or year plans are not worth it unless you plan to stop at that specific truck stop every time....
I dont bother to take my xbox on the road since I try not to have too much downtime -
I use mine pretty much for talking to my online friends. Yeah you can play off a hot spot I wouldn't recommend the wifi at the truck stops they are as someone else said a pain in the rear....I mainly use my Xbox for watching movies unless I'm down for a reset...there again as someone said you may not have much time to play

or you can be like me and start playing then 5 hours later think "sheeet" I need sleep
One reason I dont take mine on the road, I get caught up too easy and lose track of time or think to myself "just 5 more min!!"Monkey1house and WorldofTransportation Thank this. -
Truck stop internet is really meant for social activities like email or facebook. If you can get a spot close to the store with less trucks between you and the store you may be able to get oa decent connection for gaming but finding a truck stop with a decent WiFi is like trying to fijd a needle in a hay stack. The best connection for gaming at a truck stop is idle air with an Ethernet cable. Most of the time their connection is super fast. The reason why WiFi sucks is cause one the more devices connected the more of a draw on bandwidth there is and a lot of folk will connect to the truck stop WiFi even if they aren't actively using it. Also passing trucks that go between you and the store will also disrupt the signal. Pilots with the best WiFi are smart and will put an access point high up on their roof or on light posts. Not a lot like that. My vest suggest is a mobile hotspot. Verizon would be an excellent choice for gaming but you'd have to be careful on how much data u use.

normally pilots have a good signal even far back in the lot, but like you mentioned the more who connect the slower it will be.
Also remember with a hotspot you will be using a lot of data, once in awhile I will play my diablo 3 which uses a lot of data but I have unlimited which is very hard to find these days unless you go with one of those cheap companies. I talked with a guy this morning who has clear something hotspot and pays $50 a month for unlimited but he said he doesnt get a decent connection in a lot of places, he didnt even get it in Otay mesa near San Diego this morning where with ATT I had LTE coverage.
I am not too sure how t-mobile is these days but they offer unlimited and with the right app you can tether your phone easy, I use an app to turn my Note 2 into a hotspot.
