Hi, I'm trying to get as much info as possible o pulling long doubles. I'm thinking of starting pulling doubles from IL to Mass. Any advice? What are limits by length and weight? Any downsides.

Won't work well. There is this pesky state called PA in the way, that doesn't permit LCV's. Also I don't believe they're allowed on the tail end of I-90 past Buffalo either, but I could be mistaken. Buffalo to Boston and points in between, and south on 87 as far as Ardsley is all you'll get without breaking a set and shuttling them one at a time.

I find it hard to believe you've been driving for 3 years, yet don't have a Motor Carriers Road Atlas at hand, with answers to all the info you are asking about.

You won't even be able to start a trip from IL to MA.
IL only permits up to 28'6" doubles. No turnpike doubles.

You can run turnpike doubles to the end of the NY Thruway west of Buffalo, there's a doubles staging area at the Ripley barrier plaza.

I stand corrected. Shame on me, and I'm a born New Yorker too. PA wouldn't have it though, and I believe a portion of I-90 in OH is also off limits.

Yeah, your doubles run would have to end there at Ripley, PA don't play and Ohio only does on the turnpike.

BTW I sent your contact info to Albany. The NY State Police will be serving an eviction notice on you shortly!:biggrin_25520:

What is the drop in fuel economy? I'm getting 6.2 right now pulling reefer heavy all the time. Breaking the combination to pull through PA doesnt bother me too much. I'm looking at numbers and it all look good so far. Maybe it worth to try. I just dont have all info.

Pulling one 53 footer is difficult enough. Can't imagine pulling two. What is the weight limit for such a set up? Is it still 80k gross?
