Took 1 week to get 50 hrs in because we were "helping" JcP dedicated. Tx anf La.
Then started OTR. Swift gps has some interesting routes. From a beautiful Indian summer day in Ga to dang! it's cold here in Denver glad I brought my winter coat.
Having fun do far. Even finding parking is like a gigantic chess game. I also have an awesome trainer.
Y'all be safe.
MaryTapeworm Thanks this. -

I'm having fun. Need to get more backing practice in, but sometimes hard because the way some places are set up. A 53' is a little different than the 48' trailer we had at school.
Learning how to slide tandems and push buttons on the q-com. Going to play with chains tomorrow. Denver has place to practice.
I need to figure out which gps and dashcams to get. My trsiner has his own gps, came in real handy when the q com decided to die in the middle of Memphis... :0)
Be safe

I've never liked the QC GPS.
Not enough information, and never at the right time - when it works at all.
I was happy with my RM510, but it was getting old. I upgraded to the 520, and am happy with it so far.
This one has lifetime map updates, which is an important feature. It also has real time weather, including wind speeds. Real time traffic is also an option.
As with any GPS though, you have to use your brain as well.
They are never fully up to date, and they seldom choose the very best route.
I often find that my fuel route provided by Swift is a much better route than what the GPS provides. (sometimes not)
And you have to be aware of the route settings in the GPS.
Fastest, shortest, allow toll roads?, prefer freeways or accept all roads...
They all change the routing, miles, time...
The QC GPS has less, and it does not follow the fuel route sent by the company. It also seems to lose the signal more often, so you might be in the dark more often.dptrucker Thanks this. -
my qc gps has been dieing on me lately sending me "off road" last night for 40 miles but I have been to Otay Mesa before and remembered how to get there. Sometimes the directions can be a little confusing or it might tell you something a little too late, I did a rookie move today and went to a new place without planning or getting a good feel of the directions, when I got off the 60 today I turned the wrong way and ended up travelling through downtown Vernon, CA which was a pain in the arse but I made sure to follow signs for truck routes and chose a large road to turn down and found my way. DM told me every driver has gotten lost the first time going to this drop lot so I didnt feel too bad but I should of been more prepared than I was. I asked him to send directions today for a new place im travelling to tomorrow so I can map it ahead of time and be ready. Like moose said use your brain and dont rely on just the gps. I might look into a RM gps in the next couple weeks since my checks are doing much better, I just want to make sure rent and stuff is paid first.
I didnt learn how to do the lumper pays when i was with my mentor since we never needed it while I was with him, when I had to do it the first time I just called up my DM to explain the process to me. I try to scan my receipts in quickly though so I dont get a hit on my check, especially whenever I end up with an Unfi load I got a few times in Lathrop which had $253 reschedule fees I had to do a po for. -
Yes.
You can get paid for loads that are not scanned in by Wednesday night on the next paycheck, but not for things like lumper fees.
Get those things in late and you will eat it on your next check, though they will be paid back on the following one. -
yeah I was lucky on the last one, I got paid for that load I did on the cutoff date and I forgot to scan the lumper in, they paid me for the load with the accelerated pay but luckily they didnt do the lumper fee, I scanned the stuff in a couple days ago and saw both went through on this coming check. A loss of $253 for a week is a big hit for me right now I dont need.

But as a company driver, don't I need to follow the Qcom gps since it has fuel stops as well as routes?
Next company I go with has to let me pick my own routes!
:0)
Take care
Mary
