tiledood, not yet. I am scheduled to go into the class on the 6th. Since my last post it has been more of the same. Feb. logbook takes up 1 single page.
The class itself is only a day and a half of stuff. Covering safety, expectations, policies and of course pay structure. Basically a day of lectures. The ability to enter the class or program is based on your performance, your safety record, log book violations (of lack of) and of course whatever the company requires in terms of experience. But from what I understand the class itself is not a typical class in terms of learning experiences.
I will keep you posted if you like tho.
Good luck in March to all of you, be safe out there! -
Whew that stinks. Is that due more to the short window of opportunity that would be available for load scheduling, to a potential team driver, as you have limited time to drive, before your scheduled Lead Driver training? Hope that made sense but that's how it sounds from your prior posts. Did I understand it right?
Please do and thanks! I know the participants of this forum seem to agree that they aren't the prefered option. They (CRST) are one of the few that hire in my area and return phone calls. I actually had training scheduled with them but the day after confirmation, I was reminded by a family member that I had agreed to remodel their shower a month prior. It's family, so there's no need to explain, but I cancelled with CRST for the short term. I had worked on research for several companies for a month or so and forgot about this prior commitment. The recruiter wasn't mean or nasty, but sounded understandably disappointed. -
Yes sir it made perfect sense. Which in itself is kind of sad considering the answer I have to give

You are correct on both counts. After the co-driver I mentioned previously got his perm co-driver (wife) released they found me another guy whose wife was also ill and going to be out for 3 weeks. Long story short, a breakdown, and weekend dispatch sending him the wrong direction later we decided to not bother since the soonest they could put us in the same place was on a Friday and he had to be home to pick his wife up from the hospital on Wed.
From that point we again scheduled me for the class, but someone dropped the ball and they did not send us a final plan on which terminal to route me too. Now there is confusion on if I will take it at Cedar Rapids or Carlisle. So my FM and I (well he decided I just agreed) to give it a week and send me to whichever one has a truck ready and waiting for me this coming Wed. Now in truth I wanted to wait a week this time. Not having worked in about 5 weeks now cash flow is an obvious problem and I had an opportuinty to earn a little extra. So I needed the extra couple days right now anyway.
I fully understand your delaying training. If you dont mind my asking what recruiter were you speaking too? If any of them give you any hassle ask for Bert Spore. I dont know that he can help with any issues but I do know he wont lie to you like so many recruiters tend to do.
Have you got your CDL yet or would you be going through one of their schools? If schooling do you know which one? I can say that some of the schools we use or less quality than others, but if they give you a choice I would highly reccomend the one they sent me too. The equipment is weak, the housing is horrible but the extreme high quality of the staff there makes it all worthwhile. These are not instructors who read a book and passed a test, each and every one of them has OTR experience, most have 20 years or more. They are patient, they will help you in any way you need, and you will leave there with a very good idea of what you are getting into.
I will have my laptop with me when I leave so I will keep you posted. -
So it's mostly circumstantial and not necessarily the companies lack of attention or short sightedness? I understand then and thanks for the reiteration.
Brandi Score, but there were no hassles with her at all. In fact she actually impressed me as someone who had their act together. She darn sure followed through in a manner that put the other (allegedly better companies) recruiters to shame. She called when she said she would and answered the phone when it rang. Her confirmation call came with a fairly complete itinerary and she gave me advice from what weather to expect, to clothing to pack, to shoes to wear, to what was expected of me etc.. I know this is basic professional courtesy but man oh man is it ever a rare thing. That's one of teh reasons I felt bad about cancelling out on her- she had come through. I'm usually dependable and understand the importance of being so. I'm not certain I have it right, but I suspect a LOT of people apply for these situations. It seems rational to think that when I got the green light, other applicants were put on the back burner. By cancelling, I probably earned a big fat red "X" adjacent to my name in their little black book- if not a strikethru. Okay maybe that's a Woody Allen moment. It's still plausible.
Thanks for the advice. No, I don't have the CDL-A yet. The scheduled School was Mercedes (?) in Dothan, Alabama, which was convenient for me. Mrs. Score said they would have taken me back across the State Line to Florida, (30 miles or so) to take the CDL skills test. That means I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of, or pay twice for the license transfer. However, since the time I applied, was accepted, and had to put this on hold, I've had a student loan application accepted. (Woohoo!) The only red flags so far are.. well.. pretty big ones. CRST has a really bad reputation on this and other forums. The reality of being thrown into a cab with someone that I don't know but am apt to dislike if not genuinely loathe, is also concerning. Definately keep intouch. I'd like to know if they're as bad about equipment maintenance as I've read.
