hey folks
i live in the syracuse ny area and plan on attending a trucking school so i can have my cdl a by the start of summer. my gf and me are expecting a baby in january, and due to the situation, long trip over the road type hauling is kind of out of the question at this point. Just trying to get some insight on flatbed hauling jobs in this area that are regional, are quality places that pay decent for starter positions, etc. i'd appreciate any tips or ideas that you guys have. im trying to plan ahead here seems im really new to everything trucking, and dont really have alot of knowledge on different companies. also if anyone knows of a good website that lists trucking jobs would be great.
thanks!!

Try Craigslist under transportation jobs.... You may find something u like

Gypsum Express is big up there, they always seemed to have decent equipment and friendly drivers.

gypsum will prolly be the best for hometime. leave out either sunday or Monday and back Friday. ive worked out of bville for 3 years good company to work for and newer equipment, thou they still have some older trucks.

Maybe try ARG or Wadhams if you decide tanker might interest you someday, probably the best type of work for someone with a family. Not sure if they still do but they use to hire guys out of school and have a terminal near you. Long days but you would be home every day and the equipment is good, money is alright.

Gypsum would be good, you could also try tmc, or once you get experience you could try p&s.

Redryan,
Like the others said, your best bet would probably be Gypsum. I'd also check out Barr Transportation in Auburn; they haul steel for Nucor, but I don't know if they hire new drivers. As for non-flatbed regional or local out of Syracuse, there's Wadham's, NFI's Bud account, rail container work with JB Hunt, SNI, and Swift, WeCare and MBI (waste haulers), and Riccelli (construction, road salt, sand, etc.), all with varying experience requirements. Good luck. -
thanks guys, appreciate the advice. definitely going to check these places out and keep them in mind when i start the job search
