Howdy. I'm. 22. I been thinking bout buying a truck with a side dump trailer to haul in the oil feild and construct as an owner operator. I am currently hauling horses and cattle right now and I mean I haul a lot of them. I know the log rules and know how to cheat them etc. I have quite bit experience in trucking in the agriculture trucking but not oil feild and construction. I have done lot of flatbed hauling due to hay and farm machinery and a sizer here n there. I know insurance is killing me here due to my age but I have no tickets or accidents. I been running Midwest to Mexico border a lot lately but want to work a few months 7 days a week straight then take a few months off
Asking for you all two cents.

2 Cents! Not sure what you are asking other then should buy a truck and go do something you have no experience doing? And then take a while off? What about that truck payment? I'm not sure at your age if I would have bought a truck, with the expense of it being what it is. I think we need to know whee you are located and then what exactly your plans are. Later!

I have my own peterbilt truck right now Was thinking about trading it off for a truck with a pusher axle on it and pull a tri axle side dump. I've hauled lots of livestock and surely livestock is gottabe harder to handle than a side dump trailer ?

Almost flopped one of my side dumps and watched 2 others flop over within an hour the same day, it's not always easy.

dirt work in nd is hard on trucks. theres good money in it but your repair bills will be high. also most dirt work in nd is 6 days a week. do work a few sundays every now and then but primarily monday-sat and work will slow way down if not stop all together come winter. i pull belly dump but plan to setup for side dump over the winter. bellys are a little more saturated in nd than sides.

What's the hurry? Get a company driver job, learn the work, learn ND, develop contacts and relationships, bring on your own equipment when you really know the lay of the land (and, when you're 23).
I feel you on a couple months on, a couple months off. Not sure how feasible that is. More likely you're going to want to work the summer months and take the winter months off. Better money in the summer when freight is high, roads have traction and it's light from 4:30 am until 10 or 11 pm. That's the getting time. -
Hey Ezi how's it going for you lately? I got a new gig hauling crude in Alberta. Will send you a pm when I get a bit of time.
