Hell I wouldn't wait for the boss to tell everyone. I'd let everyone know I did it and whym I could care less if you or anyone thinks I'm a dirty "snitch". You stealing or drinking on the job and I find out about it, #### straoght I'm ratting you out.

As far as a wife disrespecting ger husband because he made the morally, ethically, legally correct decision? I'd drop the dumb heifer on the spot for that. I wouldn't wantvto be married to someone who had an issue for me turning in a drunkard at work. She obviously has no moral compass.

Had never heard of Southern Tier. A NY beer? Reminds me of the--what was it?--salsa, made in Nyew Yahk Ceety? I like my beers dark, almost chewy. Baltika #6 Porter.

    On home time, of course.

At that, I usually forget I have it in the fridge. Oh, yeah, had a glass, put it away. Wonder if it's flat after all this time. Yup. Still good, too.

    Strictly on home time.

He made it your problem when he bought booze in front of you. End of problem. Report him and turn in your two weeks notice, and in your letter make sure to point out that you are resigning to avoid retialation for whistle blowing. If you can have your boss or an office sign sign a copy acknowledging recipt of said letter. Then you have a get out of jail free card if they try any BS on your DAC later down the road.

Unfortunately if his drinking problem sounds as bad as it is, just talking to him probably won't change things. Alcoholics have been known to lose everything for the next drink.

That's very true. I worked for a half-way house (bookkeeper) on Nicollet Island in Minneapolis, one of my first 'real' jobs. We actually had alcoholics die in the cold, on the fire escape, for example, or in doorways.

I remember one time a buddy and I had this great conversation after we had (on a weekend at his home where a bunch of us drivers would try see who first dropped under the table, Cuervo shooters and beer) been drinking, partying. Next day he couldn't recall a thing, that we had even gone for a stroll. We all drove local for an LTL outfit, home daily, weekends off.

You can't reason with a drunk or someone who is drinking. They do not have command of all their faculties.

Back in the old days one could get away with that crap. The problem is we don't live in that world anymore. Roads are more crowded and regulations are tighter. The man is probably more messed up sober than he is drinking. Back in my construction days we had a guy that wasn't worth a crap until he downed a six pack and then he was pretty normal. One's like that have a high tolerance. He has a very serious problem to the point he thinks it's okay for you to see him buy it like it's cool.

The big question is if something happened could you deal with it if you have done nothing. Though it's not an easy situation the goal is the dude needs off the road and for a long time. I'm not sure what I would do. Talking with him won't do any good. He'll just go back to hiding it. Involving the boss like you said drinks too might bring negative feedback. Would getting fired by the boss fix the problem?

As bad as it seems I would let him take off and call 911 and let them deal with him. He needs to be removed from the roads for a long time. Anyone that has had a family member killed by a drunk driver would strongly agree. He has to hit rock bottom. You would be doing him a favor.

First thing you need to do is find out if it is more than one driver doing this. In this type of work, some of the older guys will not change their ways. You could be walking on eggshells. Now you're in a rock and a hard spot, but something needs to be done ASAP. The other thing is just posting on this site could draw unwanted attention. Just like playing cards, ya want to win, but you don't want anyone to see the cards you're holding. I do not recall the name, but it is a whistleblowing agency that will leave you anonymous, maybe someone can help with the link or phone number. Lots of luck to you on this one.
