Hello people, I have 30+ years of driving experience. Primarily in the freight LTL business as well as flatbedding. I have been required to keep paper logs and have learned to run legal and also pinch some time here and there to work things to my advantage without the log looking way outta whack. I should say I was home most nights. So the "sleeper berth" line never pertained to me.
I recently accepted an OTR job with a company that uses electronic logs. I am looking for some advice on the best technique to run this log in order to maximize my own profitability. With all the time I have been driving I have learned that rolling through truck stops and telling trucker stories over a cup of coffee is not my style and takes money out of ones pocket .. Can someone tell me an efficient way to squeeze every second out of the day and be somewhat legal in the process. Thanks in advance. And be safe out there.
Looking for advice on managing an electronic log in order to maximize miles...

Just Like Paper "On-Duty not driving" is bad.
The main thing is to learn the system's parameters. And those vary company to company.
As An Example
Some are set so if you travel less than a certain duastance and stop or travel under a set speed you do not get forced to the drive line. This may allow you to creep from the fuel island to a parking spot without going on-duty.
Creep from the back of the truck stop to the road. Stop Then push the button to go On-duty
You only need to log the time it takes to fuel and or inspect. Be ANAL about getting to off duty.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Really to maximize miles you need to run as hard as possible with the fewest stops possible. With e-logs you will only be able to drive 11 hours and you can't "fudge" the driving time. When I do stop I will go to off duty or on duty as soon as I can to save my driving hours and when I take off just let the computer change it back to driving status. Hope it helps.

Thats why you will see lots of drivers crawling to the dock. Or back to the gate at 10 mph lol

Those are the ones that have a speed threshold.
