Well, I certainly don't need a huge fine so I don't text and finally broke down and got a headset. However, I would point out that we all know somebody who talks on the phone while driving all the time and has never had a wreck. I worked for a guy when I was 13, one of the first guys I knew with a cell phone and every time you saw him driving that thing was on his ear, never been in a wreck. just lucky ?
I also know people now, kids mostly, who can text without even looking at the thing. I'm not defending it, persay, just pointing out that it's a skill and surely there are those who can do it safely while driving. I used to text occasionally when on an open stretch of interstate. I wouldn't just stare at the phone for 5 minutes. I'd glance at it and then return my eyes to the road, I never felt it was dangerous. In fact, if you know anything about how tunnel vision works it is actually better to keep your eyes moving and darting around. Glancing at your phone and returning it to the road keeps your peripheral vision active, safer than gluing your eyes to the road in front of you. What about your GPS ? Is it safe to look at it while driving ? But I digress, as stated the fines and enforcement is plenty of incentive to stop my dangerous, dangerous ways.
Texters beware - cops are now driving big rigs to catch you

Easily, pissed off 4-wheeler sling shot you, get in front of you, and slams on the breaks.
That scam won't last long though, more and more truckers getting dash cams.
You can see some examples of this already on YouTube. -
I can sort of see an app for teens by concerned parents, but the teens should be taught about choices and consequences, rather than a silly app.
And no reason to invent an app. Just put the phone on silent mode, and don't look at it. I'm sure when you reach your destination, that you can easily see all the text messages that was sent during your drive. -
This is why I'm against any apps based on speed.
Just be responsible, and ignore the phone. Put it on silent, and out of sight, else suffer the consequences, and can't blame anyone else. -
So much for the bears trying to hide out in the bushes like that.

tl;dr
Last I heard, penalty for texting while driving is $2,750 and loss of your CDL.
This topic shouldn't even be an issue. Just don't do it.
Of course, about being in a truck looking down into a car, well 4-wheelers will be 4-wheelers, esp teenagers that have to be up to the minute in their social media and texting. Once I had 16 year old girl driving behind me closely while texting, and I got real nervous

full speed Thanks this.

Great video. Maybe if someone was cross eyed where they could have 1 eye on the road and 1 eye on the text? Ok, yeah that was bad, sorry

Is this what people mean when they say you got a full grown ahead on the cb

This is old news actually. TN is the most police happy state ever. The police all have brand new fancy cars since they pull over everyone to pay the bills. Other states the police do their job but in TN they just want your money.
