Thanks Boom Truckin. I applied for Morgan on Oct 18. No word yet. I think they want very experienced operators but you can confirm that with your neighbor.

Here is Trican's latest response tonight.

Trican does not have any means of accommodations while working . We will put u in a hotel for a month while you look for a place to stay/live. As for travel we don't cover any expenses for back and forth. Were you looking to move here if it works out? If not please ensure this will work for you before committing to it.

If you're ever near Edmonton, apply in person at their Acheson location. Last I heard they need 600 more employees for their upcoming season. They hire operators with any experience level, so long as your competent. That's why it's best to walk in so they can meet you.

Trican won't give you a dime to commute home. They will pay your moving expenses after 6 months but the catch is you sign on for another year. I just claimed it on my taxes myself instead.

What division are you applying for? Frac, Coil, Cement or Bulker?

I would spend the money and fly there this week if I was guaranteed a job with camp accommodations. Hopefully they will pick up on my application online. Yes, I know these online resumes are pretty much a waste of time. But like you said Boom Truckin, no reason why they can't do a decent phone interview, drug test locally, reference checks. A lot of cash to fork out if it does not pan out.

This was for cement bulk operator. Do they pay more wage because they are not covering travel expenses and accommodations?

No they don't. Your on a base salary plus job bonus. I could never get used to it. 2800 plus 700 a month northern living allowance salary plus your job bonus's. As a Bulker it's 260 (iirc) a load, no matter how long it took to get the load and deliver it. They just lowered the bonus for all bulkers when I left. It used to be 360. But one frac sand hauler in GP made 130k in one year and Calgary thought that was way too much.

Trican is a really good company- I used to work for them and they treated me very well. Fort Saint John is a great place to work, as they work huge jobs in the Horn River area. Whoever you are talking to almost certainly wants to meet you face-to-face to talk with you and get an impression of what type of worker you might be. Obviously if you don't look/talk like you will be sticking the job out than he/she will not be interested in you, but if it looks like you are very interested and can last, than you will be hired.
I say fly up there, but bring multiple resumes. There are lots of other frac companies up there (Schlumberger, Sanjel, Calfrac, Canyon, Halliburton) that will also be very interested in you. By walking into their shops you will get interviewed, and if you call back in a day or two, you will get an offer from someone.
Seriously, showing a bit of commitment to wanting a job is a great way to land one. A lot of money for you now, but even if you have to go in debt, you'll make it a hundred times over in a year. Literally. My 2 cents.
