I own a 2013 kw t660 with the paccar engine and have had no problems, other than new trk bugs to work out. Set at 485 hp, 13speed, and 3:36 gearing. average speed i run is 70-80 mph 80-90% of time I pull dry vans, reefers, doubles and triples. Wife and I run team now have 303,254 on trk. Does not use oil I do a minor service at 15K and a major service at 30K oil samples are pulled every 15K. Samples very clean run delvac 15/40. I too have heard horror stories of the paccar engines but my experience has been a very reliable engine, lifetime fuel avg is 6.8 mpg. With a lifetime idle time of 1.5% trk is equipped with a tri pac apu. Dpf cleaning at 250K was same day at a cost of 729.15 this included def fluid filter change. very happy with trk and engine. Then again I always have loved my Paccar trucks. Hopes this helps

Had a local fleet in 2010 buy 30 new petes 15 cummins 15 paccar mx. In 2012 they bought 12 more all mx. We are delivering 30 more trucks all mx power this week. The issues I have seen with this fleet have been few. Coolant module had a casting flaw. Oil module had a bearing come out of the spinning oil filter, fleetguard had made the filter wrong and rotation was backwards unscrewing the bearing. Replaced a wire harness from the firewall to the engine. Replace an engine pmci (ecm). Dosing injector, and a turbo. I think thats a pretty good track record. I do not care to work on this engine because the information in pacars web site is limited and often wrong. They (Paccar) tell me its getting better I told them the bar is so low anything they do will be better. The engine has been out for a while now and Paccar is letting the tech take charge and make the repair.

The early MX engines(2007) gave a lot of problems in Europe, but to be fair, Paccar stood over them and the later generation(2010 onwards) are vastly improved. There are several units coming up for 1,000,000kms now coming through our workshop and still performing well.

I do prefer the Cummins engine though....just a personal preference.

Which transmission and final drive ratio you mate it with are just as important as which engine you choose. All of todays truck engines will pull well paired with right transmission and pumpkins.
