Pothole in Indiana

Mine is $5,000 ... I figure if I am going to make a claim, it's going to be worth it.

 

From what I have read, if the State was aware of the problem hole,and you sustained damage because of that hole, and you reported to the local law enforcement agency, and a report was written, you probably have a good case to recover some money, but it takes time.If they were not aware of the problem, as no one had reported it before,very hard to collect.That is what I have learned in the past. If I had damage from such a pothole, I would report it to local authorities so it could be fixed.

 

If you report something in Indiana you will get an official response. Now that isn't gonna make the problem go away, but it might help out your fellow driver. Government is big and slow, they like people with little patience who give up easily. Best thing is to stick with the process no matter how long. I can see the driver getting compensated in this instance.

 

The procedure is, you go to repair shop and fix your truck. Pay the man and move on.

 

Not like our government actually claims responsibility for anything since theyre so used to sticking it to us with taxes

 

The granny lane on I70 (both directions) is full of pot holes in eastern Indiana. They did an initial fix... put up a couple of signs indicating rough road, and it's your problem! They've finally started repaving parts of the lane edges. Of course, since Indiana is about the cheapest state around, it will be a mess again come next spring. Best advice... don't run in the granny lane out there. Let the good citizens of Indiana in their four-wheelers damage their buggies, and complain to their legislators. Then something will be done.

Hit one westbound about mm144 last March... no warning, it just was there in the dark. Totally blew-out the shock on the right steer axle.

 

I-75 in Michigan from Detroit to Toledo is bad also ; i'm driving slow on bumpy roads ,still at 50-55mph, 2 weeks ago i was heavy I damaged a hub bearing and the end of the axle; i paid 3000$ for repairs ;

 

I've wondered this myself(while cursing out loud the state and the dot) each time I hit one of those potholes or poor bridge connection.

 

I'd call Indiana and politely tell them you will be sending them a bill for the damage done from the pothole that they neglected to fix. If they laugh and say good joke just tell them you won't be paying ifta taxes to their state until that bill is equal to the cost of the repair. I'm sure that won't work but hey its worth a shot. If I broke a spring due to a pot hole is be at the capitol building with a jack hammer. Nebraska is horrible with pot holes in Lincoln in the winter. And last time I tagged my pickup in Lincoln I paid $300+ in wheel tax. Sent a letter to the mayor. Never got a response. Guess he didn't like the language I used or the fact that I told him exactly what I thought a out his potholes and my $300+ wheel tax...not to mention what I thought of the lazy ### roadworks in that city.

 

When I was trucking,My deductible was $5,000.00 you can get different deductibles,it has a little effect on the cost of your insurance. In example if you have a $1,000.00 deductible all you pay is the first thousand the insurance company pays the rest,If your deductible is $5,000.00 you pay up to the first five thousand,It just makes you responsible for more and the insurance company will adjust your rates for it and when you are running 11 trucks every little bit helps. Besides I didnt get up every day planning on having an accident,just the opposite I always prayed we would make it thru the day with no accidents or breakdowns. Somedays my prayers came true,Somedays not!!!!
