I am trying to decide what to paint my truck as well. I have come up with the idea to get the large vinyl decals and put them on the original paint to see how you like the design. Then if you want to change it some you can, and then the one you paint on will be the best one.

Why paint with imron paint dont put cheap old imron that wasnt good to begin with on your truck there is so much better products out in the market now that dont fade or chip easy like that junk imron did. I have painted many a truck and would never use imron even back in the day. go to a good body shop and get some info from them not earl shives we paint anything for 29.95 shop either. Most good shops will be happy to help you and advise you on stuff to use. Use a good base coat/ clear coat or bc/cc there are many different clears out there right now that have so much better shine and chip resistence. And try not too go too crazy on colors the more you stand out the more likely of being noticed by cops. just some advice from someone who grew up doing bodywork not in a back yard garage either.

Don't want to hijack the OP's thread, but since shovel98 is a body man, what do you recommend for the aluminum grill surround of a truck? The front of the truck takes a lot of road debris, bugs, etc., is why I'm asking. I imagine paint would chip, so would powder coating it be better? Thanks.

I think you should look at my cheap old Imron paint job a little closer. No clear of course as its a single stage, you won't find a clear to shine any better and its not been wet sanded and buffed. With base clear if base is not allowed to cure properly the clear peals youn have seen it I'm sure. Imron is urethane based, guess what most clears are urethane based. If Imron is used with the proper reducer and HARDENER (which most leave out due to expense) Its a very durable smooth long lasting shine. I have never had trouble with chipping either.

Imron isn't good paint? It's all I use.

I've had a lot of vehicles painted in it, its good paint. That's why Kenworth paints trucks with it from the factory.

Some are clueless. I did notice he said go talk to some one about what to use. I would think a pro would have said the name of the proper product.

I was always told Imron was the only paint that wouldn't get sandblasted off a truck driving in the southwest. It's what we used on my project '49 F1, that's still in the project stage lol, 20 years ago and the engine well was just like wore out's Pete. No orange peel smooth as glass. Looks like it was painted yesterday. Yeah it's old school but it's great stuff.
