Good deal 7.5 Bob tail isn't bad isn't great. That'll drop down to about 5 or so depending on load weight and how hard you decide to run it. Keep your foot out of it and you'll be alright. That was a 475 correct?

I never heard anyone brag about having a 6NZ until shortly after Bruce M. talked them up while a guest on KR's show. Now it's THE motor to have, it seems. I'm not saying they are good or bad, just stating an observation on the 6NZ's popularity.

Bruce didn't know anything about them till he heard others talking, he just happens to have a louder voice...

You guys and your speed junk. You do know a 290 with the right gears and trans will go fast, so why brag about speed???

After reading some of the threads on LCM especially the one about the monfort trucks, that fact becomes obvious. The trucks that started that legend were not big power trucks.

No they weren't big power for sure. Some had boxes with brownlites and two speeds to get the ratios close enough and tall enough to get'er done. Yet we complain about the equipment we have today to get the job done. I think I will keep my little motor and for go all those sticks cluttering up my floor. I make my living with whats considered old technology. Compared to what they done it with in the 70's I'm poopin' in tall cotton.

The ones that got me are the trucks that had autos in them, I don't know how they got them to go fast, every allison auto I have looked at back in the day didn't have an overdrive in them.

Funny I never noticed any with autos. I guess I have always assumed thats a pretty new thing. Like you what few I have seen in medium duty were not overdrives till a few years ago. I have several friends that have autos in mechanic trucks, FL70 and 330 petes they really have trouble in soft loose dirt getting them to pull off. They must have a pretty high low gear ratio as well. Being under powered has alot to do with it too I'm sure.

I don't think there were many, may have been a few of the earlier trucks they had that had 318s in them as well.
