Well atleast he didn't make up the pushing the lease thing from day one, I called over there and acted like I wanted to come onboard.
My story for the call was that I got my CDL two years ago, I was helping a friend deliver RV 's to help him out, then I lost interest in helping him and went back home to work and I'd been off the road a year or so.
They told me I would have to go through a refresher course and go out with a trainer truck for a week or so. Then it came out, the sales pitch. I was told I seemed like a great candidate for lease to own program and that the pay scale was siimilar to a owner op pay scale.
There are several trucks to choose from, a Freightliner Cascadia, and two others. Truck payments range from $562 to $680 a week but with the higher payscale and the miles no one has ever been in a position if not being able to make payments.
I then said interesting and begun asking questions which were:
1. What is the average length of haul? Answer: it varies by loads for the week
2. If I have to short haul, what does that pay? Answer: Standard mileage pay
3. Is there a per diem pay option? Answer: I'm new I will need to check on that
4. How many miles can I drive per week? Answer: our lease drivers average 3200 miles per week.
There were other questions. I then asked since he was new, has he heard the saying, Every new guy leaves after ninety days, he laughed and said her never heard that one.
Interesting to say the least.
