I work part time for a used truck dealership. We are a smaller operation so repeat business if very important to us. We rarley by trucks at auctions. Most of the trucks we buy come from fleets that we have been buying from for years. We continue to buy trucks from these specific fleets primarily because they have what we believe is a good maintenance program. Most of our trucks are sold to construction companies or to farmers. However, we do sell some trucks for over the road. All our trucks go through the shop. We will also go out and find trucks for customers to meet specific needs. I would not hesitate to buy a truck from a used truck dealership. However, find someone who has been in business for a long time and ask them for references. You also have to be realistic in your expectations. If your buying a 30000.00 dollar used truck it will not be the same as a 75000.00 dollar used truck.

Dealership or used truck dealer, you are paying extra to make THEM money. Find one directly from the owner, and it will be cheaper. The dealer is just a middle man.

make sure to take it on a test drive also. trucks are thoroughly detailed. oil leaks get washed away.

one couple on here took there just purchased truck home. to find axle seals leaking.

i seen a volvo at a used dealer in tucson. getting detailed and axles washed out. all 4 brakes were soaked in grease. 4 hours later i drove by the opposite way. it was on the showroom dirt lot with asking price in the windshield.

First, Used truck purcheses are a necessity for alot of people since they cant afford a new truck. If you have the money and can afford the depreciation buy a new truck. I would not hesitate to buy a used truck from a respected used dealer.

Second, all trucks are used once they drive off the lot. We buy trucks at a whole sale prices. You get a good deal when you buy in bulk.

Third, buying from an individual can save you money. There are a lot of crooks out there. Just because your saving money doesn't mean your going to get a good truck.

If your buying a used truck from a used truck dealer ask if you can rent it for three months with an option to buy. May cost you a little more money but you get a chance to see how it performs.

Thanks for the input. As much as I would like a new truck, I just don't like the thoughts of the high payment.

Im not comfortable with the new engines. So that narrows my choices to mileage probably around 600,000 + miles. Regardless like others have said, good chances of expensive repairs around the 1mill mark.

    Thanks for your input

Take a day and talk to a dealer about new trucks. Yes the payment will be higher but the higher mpg's and lower running costs will cover that and you have the warranty.
The successful fleets buy new and sell their old crap to you, why do they do that? Think about it. New trucks are more efficient and profitable.

Good point about fleets. Just as a big company, I want less headache and to be efficient also. Definitely something to put more thought into.

I got wild Wed. Traded my KW & some cash for an 02 Pete. Old Man I met a few years ago. He bought it as the last truck he will need. I could go on & and on. It's an ugly green. Met him in Bangor awhile back. He wants it to go to a good home. 660.000 and change on it. Double walk in. Kitty with a 18. Alcoa & chrome.
Called me Monday. I saw the truck 3 months ago. I leave for Bangor Sat.
