Jrdude5,
i am not currently training for a company. It takes a huge lack of sleep and incredible amount of trust to be a good trainer. I like my private space, my freedom to sleep when I want, and sleep sitting in the same place that I last parked the truck. Most of my students didn't like me cause god help ya if we had hours of time to waste, they were backing the truck up into a hole. Anyone can drive a truck forward but not everyone can back a truck up. Back a set of doubles.....bring it!

My bf was given his trainers phone number a day or so before getting in the truck with him. That made it easier in that they had a feel for each other before being in such close quarters. I don't know how standard that is within his company but as I said, they were able to be more comfortable right off the bat.
Probably the best way to go about things is just straight up ask whatever questions you want to know. The trainer can't read your mind and you can't read his. Good luck to you.TruckinWithJosh Thanks this. -

The most common complaint that students have is that their trainers yelled at them. The most common complaint that trainers have is that their students wouldn't listen to them. The most common problem that rookies have is that they have 3 preventables in less than a year and wind up fired. The most common complaint that a rookie's SO has after termination is that their sweetum "wasn't properly trained."
So why do trainers yell at students? Why do students have difficulty following direction? Why are rookies having so many problems when they go solo? If you really want to insure a smooth start into the truckin biz and make the best of your training, you're going to have to figure out a way around all the pitfalls that normally cause rookie demise. You may need a better gameplan.TruckinWithJosh Thanks this. -
That's what im trying to do is get a good game plan. I can get along with anyone and take instructions well. Having to work hard for anything is nothing new to my life. I got the financial situation covered, studying for my permit now. But I dont wanna get a #### trainer, cause they are just a steering wheel holder. So I figure some questions could gauge his knowledge a lil bit til we on the road. Im open to any all suggestions from trainers, trainee's, truckers in general. I wanna show my trainer that I come prepared and ready to learn and work. I dont want my hand held during training either.
