My husband and I bought our first truck and have had a lot of problems keeping the truck in milage-we can't afford our own authority yet but we are hoping to work into that eventually. Can someone suggest some learning tools for new owner operators ie; how to save on fuel costs, etc while we are working under a companies authority, advise us on things to look for in a company...who is a good company to grow with?
great companies for owner operators

welcome to the forums.
What kind of truck did ya buy? what do you haul? for who? haw much experience do you guys have?
You need to find a company that you like, hauling what you like. The hwole industry is hurting right now so it may not be th companies fault. You picked a BAD time to start trucking.
there is websites out there that list fuel prices at different loactions in each state s you can plan where you fuel to try and keep the cost down. What is the fsc like where you are at now? -
I did alot of research and ultimately I think CRST for a new driver/owner op is a good choice. They offered me 75% of $1.77/m plus 100% fuel surcharge which is like .49 right now. Its about $1.81/m avg.
I can afford to operate at these payscales because I have cheap equipment" 95 valvo bought on ebay $5500.00 Paid cash" Plus lack of any long term experience limits me GREATLY.
But do your research before you choose. I hear GREAT things about Landstar.
Watch for my blog later when I post my daily exp. OTR. -
HA!! You better do more research

Kinda what I was thinking. CRST isn't that great of a place.
What was her name? Rosie or some thing like that, that was posting about making less than $300 a week take home with CRST Lease Op RUNNING TEAM. NO THANKS! -

I think somebody in here is a recruiter...lol! I have never heard that B.S. before, If it was like that I think a lot of people would have better things to say about CRST. -
Hell I thought the company I was with was bad..... 100% fuel surcharges, 3.3/mile then backhaul is about 1.2/mile........and stop offs vary is more then 1 stop......and I get 70%....
-
BTW that 3.3 isn't every run.... The local ones are basically that, and then the farther I go, say 400 miles away from the terminal, then it is about 2.8/mile there.....
-
Im not a recruiter believe me. But ive seen nothing paying any better. Im in a bad spot Ive got 1 year exp and a older truck so nobody will hire me even though I have a flawless record and such. Id LOVE to make $3.30 a mile who pays that much?
