I pull mostly 210 bbl tanks. I have noticed that if I load 180 -190 bbl's I get a nicer smother ride. If I load 174-178 bbls I get a jerky rough ride. It seems the load is sloshing around more and causing the truck to lurch forward and backward more than if I load just a few bbls more.
Is it just my imagination? Or do others find the same?
How many bbls rides best for you?

I've only been hauling crude now for a few months; furthermore, this is the first time I have pulled a liquid tanker before. When I first started, maybe the first week of driving I really noticed the surge but now I don't even think about it anymore.
My trucks high level alarm goes off at 189 bbl's so I usually haul about 180-185 bbl's. And yes I notice more surge and a rough ride anything lower than that, but sometimes you drain the tank, suck air and only get 175 bbl's.

Its called liquid surge. Think about it, the more space you fill up in the container, the less room it has to move around, thus creating a more stable ride.

i hauled bio fuel. and yellow grease.
like RSQ says. the more it's filled. the less it jerks. too bad they can't make tanks specific to the weight and fluid it's going to pull. the tanks we pulled were 7000 gallons. but the fluid haul was 6200. course, if the trucks were set up. so that more weight went on the tandem. 6400 could have easily been accomplished.
i HATED it when 6000 or less was all i got.,Chibob Thanks this. -
I've only varied between 170-190bbls and have only noticed a slight difference...not that big of a deal IMHO. In a 200bbl tanker.

No crude yet but i used to haul liquid nitrogen in a smooth-bore transport. 1/3 full was the most reactive load. Youd drive with a swagger here in the Rockies. You learn how to control it and use it after a while.
BTW be there soon for the sand haul.
My prints are in process, how do you like hauling crude in CC?
