That's the same ones I listed form Ryder for $50 a piece cheaper. (They're Donaldson mufflers.)

Again, search other muffler threads for info on these.

It is not that it is a diesel that makes it "ok". It is because of the long piping and the turbine on the exhaust side and the compressor and the intake piping on the intake side. Even a diesel without a turbo, as long as the plumbing into and out of the engine are normal practice for a truck, it should not have an issue.

The gas engines that usually have this valve warping issue, are usually higher performance engines with a very short exhaust piping system and a very short and open intake system. When the engine stops, there will be at least one cylinder (depending upon number of cylinders) with both valves open. Those cylinders are the ones that usually have the issue. It is quite open to the intake side with little more than a carburetor throttle plate to hold air back, and nothing in the way on the exhaust side.

    IMO.

When I was a kid dad bought me and big bro a brand new atv. Honda 300 ex. We drove the wheels of that thing. Literally a few times. Anyway over the years the muffler went bad fell off. People said you better fix that your gonna ruin the valves. Nah. Exhaust pipe got shorter and shorter until finally there was no pipe at all. Exhaust straight out of the head. Sounded like hell and shot fire all the time. Ran it that way for a few more years till finally there was nothing left of that machine. No plastic no racks no brakes. Had an electronic problem wouldn't start. Took it to a shop. They took one look at it and said it was to much of a safety hazard to fix. I wouldn't doubt that thing had 45, 000 miles on it

Why ask for a Honda when you can get a Hyundai for half the price and twice the warrantee.

Wonder when hyundai gonna make a truck.

All truck engines are made to run a muffler and have certain amount of restriction, it works as a buffer on the valves closing, the Cam is ground to get the most air threw the cylinder without to much cold air passing thru, boost is the power from the heat of the exhaust volumetric change from the intake to the exhaust. Engineers built the engine to run at a certain back preasure,
The very best one I was involved with was when at Freightliner they were putting resonators in the exhaust under the cab, and straight pipes, No one could weld it, so I did. I finished the job, I was on so to finish the shift I did the Government Inspection on the truck and rejected it for exhaust.
The law is 92 decibels Max.
Personally If you disturb my space with a loud exhaust what can I do to disturb yours?
Just a thought from a retired mechanic with lots of time.

bought 2 new mufflers for $87.50 @ freightliner, they had a sale today. i did the straight pipes for a day or 2 and i hated it. not because of the sound but because the sound didnt fit my truck. so now its quiet as ever. i love it.
