yup iv had it happen but it was about -35 and i had straight number 2 in never had a issue at above -20 and never had a issue above 0 with it shut off for a extended period of time.
iv jelled at -15 with the truck shut off and plugged it started ran for about 5-10 mins then died out fuel filter was pluged up with gell. added a bottle of 911 and changed the fuel filters and was fine after that.
so thats why i go by below 0 if the truck is going to be getting shut off ill put in number 1 if its not going to be getting shut off but the forecast shows it will be colder than -20 ill put in some number 1. but i try to run number 2 as much as i can. its cheaper and get better fuel millage. never had a issue unless i wasent paying attention and shut the truck off for a extended period of time below 0 or ran at less than -20 with straight number 2

So am I correct in thinking that when the truck is running, the fuel gets sucked out of the tanks and then ran through the fuel rail, absorbing engine heat, then is pumped back into the fuel tank.
And then this continues until the fuel is heated up so to speak.
So when I add some sort of additive it is eventually mixed throughout the whole tanks because of the recirculating?
Thanks for the responses so far guys. I won't be able to predict the weather ell enough to know what temp it will be so I will have to do the mix in of number 1 in order to be extra safe. -

while I appreciate your help, I dont appreciate your assumptions about what my job is. so let me now take the time to respond to your assumption and show you it was wrong.
you dont know how long the fuel would have to be in my truck, so ill educate you for a second. I said i wouldnt be able to predict the weather since even the weather men often get it wrong here, very frequently. otherwise those "sudden winter weather alerts" wouldnt have to be issued, if they were always able to predict. but aparently you feel it is is my job as a truck driver to be better at predicting the weather than the college educated meteroligists who work for the north dakota weather board. interesting idea.
as the fuel may be in my tanks for a few weeks when i leave on vacation every six weeks, not even a weather genius can be expected to predict the weather that far in advance.
so again, i really do appreciate your help, however if you keep all non helpful and inaccurate assumptions to yourself, that would also be appreciated. -

you dont have to have straight number 1 in to prevent gelling you burn off 60+ gallons a day not hard to top off if weather takes a turn for the worst. your throwing money away running number 1 when its not needed. winter time if your going to be parking your truck for a week id probably advise to throw in some number 1. but do what you want run number 1 at +30 if it makes you happy. iv been in nd sense the end of 05 so i think i know a bit about what nd weather can bring.
you can carry a bottle of hows in the truck too if it catches you off guard and your topped off just treat your fuel.
not saying you have to be smarter than a meteroligist but with how sudden nd weather can change its a good idea to stay on top of weather forecast. or you can get yourself in a heap of trouble not just with fuel gellinglokahi117 Thanks this. -
