Hello I was wondering was the $52 a day that you speak of is that for food. I'm asking because I went to the IRS office for a question that I had, and basically the IRS lady told me that my log book is my receipt. Meaning I get credit for food and also another different credit for hotel as long as my log book shows that I'm off duty NOT in the sleeper birth. She also said that it depends on what city I'm in I can claim between $50 -$150 (small town or big city NYC). I just decided to claim my hotels at $50 just to play it safe, and the IRS lady said that it was ok to do it like that. Well I'm just sharing this with you guys/ladies and I hope this information helps someone out. Thanks
t bird Thanks this. -
ATM fees, that's one that I didn't think of.

I will be claiming food as a deduction this year. I can't do per diem which leaves me itemizing pretty much everything. It kinda blows. Then again, I like being home every night, so, I guess its a tradeoff.

If you are home every night (and not in travel status), how will you be deducting food?
-
Lunches. During the working day.

If they were everyone could do it

Without taking a mandatory rest break (EG 10 hours away from your home domicile) you are ineligble for the transportation worker per diem.
Local drivers and road drivers that return to their home terminal each night don't qualify for this write off.
