no, it's not a phone app. it's a full fledged gps map. that can also be used on tablets and computers. and it's even sold as a gps unit. used to be called pcmoiler. but now i see it under a different name.

you can pay $150 for a truck gps. or you can pay $380 for a truck gps.

i've been using it for 2 1/2 years. set the parameters for weight and height, etc. and you can't go wrong.

as for the bells and whistles of the more expensive units. there's an app for that. FREE.

I'm not sure where you drive, but I've had plenty go wrong with several GPS units. I still use my atlas.

Just last night I was going down OH-117 to a stop on 117 and my Garmin was having a cow trying to reroute me over to other highways/roads and then back on 117. I had already checked my route, but decided to pull over and double check it again with my atlas. Everything looked good so I proceeded and eventually she caught up.

That was a distraction that could have cost me a bunch of out of route miles.

been just about all over the country now. with my copilot.

only time i've got into trouble. is when i do my own thinking. it knows the streets better then me. so i don't argue with anymore.

minus an incident i had 2 weeks ago. becuase of a snow storm in the mountains i really didn't feel like chaining up for or sliding off the road. so i took a detour and tried a shortcut to cut the miles down.

had mine 2 1/2 years and can't complain at all. i also have the parameters set. and that makes a GREAT deal on how your gps performs.

if it don't know what your driving. how is it supposed to know wether you can take a certain street or not. it needs to know your height and weight.

when i first got it. it took me 10 miles down a road, that had a 12 foot bridge. then i found the parameters. and they were set wrong. she no longer takes me down a street that is less then 13.6. or has a bridge that can't take the weight. and if i do a heavy or oversized. i change the parameters and it reroutes me.

I have an older PCMiler GPS and depending on where you are it is great, although it can get goofy in town here in Vegas. This place used to change faster than the maps could keep up with. I use both the good ol rand mcnalley and the gps together. The new "miler" software can be downloaded as an app for android or IOS devices, and I believe you can put it on your laptop also. Get a decent GPS receiver and your in business. Not a bad deal either when compared to say a DEZL unit at 400 bucks.

Tip: you didn't mention which model. But even if it is "older" - if it has a "50" in the model number (450, 550, 750) make sure that you have the last map update on it. Go to Menu/Settings/About CoPilot and it will say Data: GRD_alk.NA.2012.02... If it IS an x50 series model and your map version does NOT say that number, then you can get it updated following the instructions here using a Windows computer and a GOOD internet connection. If you are on those maps and you have the settings in your "truck profile" correct, then that unit does a very respectable job still. That map set is about one year old which still puts it on par for a while yet.

Mine is an old 440 unit, the newest maps are 2010 for it. I am leaning in the direction of getting the app for my Galaxy Note, why but a unit when the phone can do it for a quarter the price. Other than doing that I have always had good experiences with Garmin products, not so much with Magellan though the one that I bought skipped along the I40 after trying to route me down a road not designed for commercial traffic near KelBaker rd.

that's about how i feel about it. i paid for copilot 2 1/2 years ago. and as long as the map is available for download. i don't see a need to buy opr try something else. all i need is a working phone or tablet.

funny thing, i seem to be the ONLY one not complaining about my gps.
