Got my class a permit. Looking at taking my road test thru a private school in Charlotte. How bad with this hurt my chances on getting a driving job without going to the entire school program.

That's good u getting your cdl without much debt. The only way it will hurt u if u want 2 go 2 certain companies that have their picks of schools they deal with. Like crete will only take trainees from certain schools. But make sure u get your endorsements before u get the hard copy it will be cheaper. Good luck

Start calling the companies you would like to work for and ask...best to get ahead of the game.

What kind of freight are you looking to haul?

If you're in NC, you're in the perfect area for regional flatbed or glass with Maverick, and they don't require a school, just your CDL. We have a terminal in Laurinburg. And glass starts out at VERY high pay for students compared to other companies.

Regional flatbed drivers get home every weekend, as best they can. Usually for two days, although sometimes it's only for 34 hours. Most weekends they're home, although they do get hung out from time to time, not much you can do about that.

All of glass is OTR unless you're on a dedicated account, so you're out two weeks minimum at a time. But glass students START at .40 per mile, and will be at .47 per mile when they hit a year (there are raises at 3, 6, and 12 months).

Flatbed starts at .33 per mile and ends up at .40 at 1 year.
TCD starts at .35 per mile and will be at .42 at 1 year.

Same as flatbed. Their mileage rate is a bit lower, but they tend to get more miles per week, and have extras like tarp pay and such. I know lots of guys who make an extra $125 or more per week in just tarp pay. Flatbed does a lot less sitting than TCD, so they are moving more.
