yes, you will need permits as well. some states Ia. included if not plated for 100k you can not get an overweight permit for 100k.

I have a list of states that require raised licensed weight to get heavier permits. Off the top of my head, it seemed there were about 15.

We are going to make the maiden run with the 3 axle trailer on Thursday. Just a local (70 mi) run, so it should be forgiving if there are any problems. There are a couple things in the works for longer trips.

I am a little concerned about making sure the flip axle is more or less equalized with the other two trailer axles. I don't know of a scale that can split weigh a tridem. We have shims and can adjust the suspension, but I am not sure how to tell when we have it right. Any tips to make sure?

Easiest thing is to put a load gauge on the flip for the first few. Will get used to what shims are needed after that.

The flip has a seperate air line that goes to your air bags on the flip correct.
It should be tied into the airbags of the main deck.It will evenly give air to the back set of bags.
The trick is getting your shims right between the main deck and your flip.
Make sure the air gauge works right on the main deck. On this setup I'm pulling I have what I call a med. thick shim and a thin shim between the deck and flip. Never had a issue yet.

The way to check the weights is go to a scale and weigh all 3 axles. Then pull ahead and take the first axle off and reweigh, then repeat the process again.
That way it will show the weights for each axle. If heavy on the front 2 add more shim, if too heavy on the back reduce your shims

We have a scale in our yard. The issue is there is a slight slope pulling on or off. It makes it inaccurate when you try to split weigh two axles in a tandem...and I assume the same in a tridem. We should have time to bring the local move to our yard and play around a little bit.

    true.

what I dont know is if you can exceed an axle weight and be under 80,000 gross and still get a permit, I dont think you can ??
