It is not asking a whole lot for you because you obviously do not enjoy it.
Refraining from doing something that did not affect your safety at all in the first place is NOT going to make you a safer driver.
The surest way to ensure that there are no vehicular deaths is to ban driving, but it makes no sense right?

Don't do drugs. That's all there is to it. Don't do them. It's not about being "self Righteous". It's about being able to keep your job and the roads safe.randal02lee, dennisroc and full speed Thank this.

Joseph I've found it's hard for a lot of people to understand and obey the laws through my own threads, young and old.
A lot of times they'll see it as just a bunch of crap people don't want to hear.
Especially speed limits. Sharing the road and respecting the safety of others. And that driving is a privilege and that simply obeying the law can make a world of difference in your lively hood as a driver.
Just my two cents ,some will haft to learn the hard way wene they're posting for help to find they're new jobs and how they're trying to explain how theyre screwed up and how they now paying on it.Last edited: Dec 3, 2013

I'm extremely anti drug. And it shows. And some take issue with that. But apparently most drivers and the DOT agree with me.....

Yep, like I said just my two cents.

I am new here and new to OTR trucking. I am 48 years old and have held my CDL A for several years and ran local dump trucks and tight local hauls. Because of the economy and loss of my last job I decided that I would like to try the OTR lifestyle, and looked at it hard and decided I could possibly do it with no hitches.
I would like to share this incident and experience so others will know and consider the consequences of some bad recruiters, people who do not understand the circumstances, and a gigantic ocean of bad advice.
My first time to apply for a Huge OTR Fleet Company. I more than met the minimum requirements and the more I questioned people about old, old 25 year old DUI's, the most advice I heard was "You meet the minimum requirements, and they probably will not look back more than 10 years." "Alright I think I am in!"
My particular arrest record : 1986 DUI 20 years old, 1989 DUI 23 years old, and DUI 2004 and all were misdemeanor's-non-commercial and after the last one I realized the seriousness of the offense and other things to go along with it, and I quit alcohol and cigs all together and I have a much higher quality of life for me.
I had applied at a few larger companies willing to take someone with very little OTR experience. All of the companies on-line apps asked for " have you ever been convicted of DUI or alcohol related event to do with a motor vehicle?" I put yes and a box dropped down to enter 1 case and I entered my last one, so I thought the issue of DUI's was over. Later in the app it asked for "have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor, felonies, ect.., , I had already mentioned the DUI above and figured this was for drugs, theft, murder ect.., , this is where I should have entered the old DUI's.
Several companies were interested and one was ready for me to come at their expense and take a "refresher course", and orientation. She asked about All DUI's and I said 3, 2 of them very old and last over 10 years ago. She told me the company did not except 3 DUI's and told me " you sure ones not really really old and when you was really young cause it will probably not count." I said " well the first two are very very and I was pretty young" and she said "good the first one will probably not count then." She explained the bus and training and dates so on and so on and "your good to go" and I had a date to a dance.
Something did not feel right, so I started searching for info on priors and DUI's through the oceans of info good, bad, ugly, and some kind of close. I could not find the right answer but still emailed my recruiter expressed my concerns and asked if I should have entered my other 2 DUI's in the other criminal box, and she said " no, no do not stress about it you are good to go next week and you entered DUI at the top."
I finally found the right knowledgeable and helpful Trucker. So here it is and whether you did not intend to lie, kinda went along with one or flat out lie here is the nuts and bolts, he was answering someone else and needless to say I will not be going to that "dance" at that company.

I can agree with your opinion here for I did make the mistake myself once to avoid a physical confrontation with my wife I chose to get in my car and drive away from her and I was arrested and received a ticket for dui do I regret the decision to drive at the time yes. lockily I was caught before I could do any harm to property or life with 14 years experience not once did I ever hop behind the wheel of a rig while drinking and even at that generally avoided bars if I was going to drink. I drank at home. I made the mistake once and yeah I regret it

Yes but in many cases, people that got caught are not here because they are sorry for what they did. Merely sorry that they were caught and came here looking for a way to continue as though it never happened.
People with compulsive behavior have no business in a truck in my opinion. They tend to be the ones with DUI's, failed drug tests, failed personal relationships and poor people skills in general. Then when the ish hits the fan they look for any excuse (Other than looking in the mirror) for their own actions. The truth is, it seems very few people are actually capable of accepting responsibility for their own actions. They made the choice to get high or drunk. They failed to place the priority of their career above their priority to party. It was an active choice that they made,.. how is that a mistake? Its a blatant disregard for ethical and moral behavior.
I'm not innocent. I had a DUI in 1993. I knew exactly what I was doing when I chose to start the car and drive. I didnt think I would get caught. No excuses. I was wrong,.. period. I paid my dues,.. moved on. Problem is that no one today wants to pay their dues after getting caught. They want to go to rehab for 2 weeks or pay a fine and make it all go away. I dont feel sorry for anyone in that situation.
I like to think everyone has good intentions, no one meant to kill the mother and child while they were intoxicated behind the wheel. It just happened,.. right? Out of their control,.. right? So we should look the other way and pretend as though it never happened? Hopefully they learn from their,.. 'mistake'? I just cant find any sympathy for someone who does drugs or cant drink responsibly.
Whats the saying,.. if you cant do the time,.. dont do the crime?
My suggestion is for people to think before they roll that fatty, pack that bowl or bong,.. drink alcohol, or abuse prescriptions that may or may not belong to them. You do have a choice. What is more important to you? Coming here crying after the fact wont change anything. Go flip some burgers or get a "Welcome to Walmart" job for a few years,.. then start over and try again. Thats the reality of choosing to get high and/or drunk while driving commercially for a living.
