I been wanting to be a trucker for a while. I know I have to do my year before I really start to make good money. Note I have some few questions...what's the average post for regional, dedicated and company drivers? My plan is to do my one year and probably drive tankers locally. I'm not going in looking to make a ton of money I just want to make a good living for me and my family. If I can make about $750-$900. And my last question..is trucking really that bad?

Depends on what company you hook up with. I would plan on making about $600 per week coming out of the gate. You have to remember this .there are tons of drivers out there with years of experience behind the wheel making a grand a week, so why should any company pay you the same amount from the get-go ? You need to get some seat time and some experience. There's more to trucking than just driving. Your other question ..again it depends on you. In reality you either love it or hate it.

Trucking is a bad as you make it...if you get upset over what you have to deal with on a daily basis then it will suck. There will be traffic, road closures, slow trucks/cars, wrecks, weather, breakdowns, bad drivers, texters, bad shippers/receivers, scales backed up....blah blah blah. Let it get to you and you mind as well find another job...cause then your gonna make everyone around you miserable having to listen to you whine about crap you can't control.

Trucking like life, is what you make it. Yes it can be a stressful job but it is also a rewarding job. It sounds like you don't have overly high expectations to start which is good. You already know it will take a little time to work up to a higher paycheck but the demand for drivers is high so it won't take too long. I know of a local milk hauler (Denver area) with openings, starting pay is $20 an hour, home every night I believe and they only want one year experience. Just saying the job type and wage you want is certainly out there.
Averages for Over The Road to start can be $30-45K, Regional sometimes pays higher, sometimes lower depends on the outfit but your home more often. Local can certainly pay on the low end, though maybe being a local driver for an LTL is up your alley (pay is good ) Many variables here so you have to research whats available in your area.
Good luck! -
How is the home time for regional drivers

Allow me is correct,it does depend on the company, but it also depends on you krazzyboi. Some dispatchers tend to favor the ones that actually drive rather then take a lot of brakes. If you can show your dispatcher you get loads delivered and picked up on time, not complain be a team player ect, your dispatcher may give you the miles to make a decent living.

If you go to a private or community college CDL school, you can start right out with tankers. Community college CDL school are the cheapest and very good.
SVTN hires new CDL grads and has a terminal in St. Gabriel.
others that hire new CDL grads:
Schneider tanker
CTL
Don't waste time with a mega carrier right out of school when you can start right out making big money with what you really want in tankers.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
My plan is to go with prime and pull flats for my first year

A truck driving job is like any other job I have 2 show up on time, be ready 2 work night or day. And when u show yourself trust worthy it will go better for u. it's the lazy drivers that complain about not getting miles. Then ask th how many service failures they had they will tell u a few. If u prove 2 your driver manager that u are a runner he/she will give u the miles. It's not gonna be all peaches and cream every week but don't complain because your dm will make it up 2 u the following week. I drove regional I averaged 2700 to 3700. A week get a load and take it there no messing around
Don't no where u live but tyson offer 0-3years .39mi and they have training programDsquareD and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
I would recommend a driver training program if possible, they show you stuff sometimes over looked, log books , don't take your eyes of the road more than to seconds, drive to not use ur brakes, and if your late don't rush youll never make up lost time. smartest advice a old driver told me when I was learning, saved my life a few times
