What I always tried to do was when I was with them was to truly be with them. Listen to what they say, do things they will remember. You can't make every play or ball game but make what you can. I have parked my Pete at the ball field many occasion just to catch last half of the game. Call them every day talk about nothing, with cell technology sending pictures helped us. When they were little they would be on the porch jumping up and down screaming Daddies home as I come up the drive. Eyes full of tears hanging on my legs as I left. I still see both memories every time I come and go. My wife would get so mad when my little girl would come in covered in grease and oil helping me get the truck ready to go, but laugh at the same time.

I sometimes wish I had distanced my son from it more, he went to a year of college cause I asked him to made good grades. During the summer break he came to me and said Dad I know this isn't what you want to hear but I have found a truck and a grain wagon. I know I can make it but without a co signer I can't get a loan I don't have any established credit. My wife talked me into it I guess that says a lot for the time we spent together that it was good enough he would follow me. I always made it a point they knew I done this for them not because of them. Nothing prepared me for the truck he wanted. A red 379 with black fenders and a black top. I have always drove a red 359 with black fenders and a black top. I know I'm not a maverick driver maybe this little bit of rambling will help somebody to get over the hump.

This is the same thing my bf says all the time (that this is for us). We're not a Maverick family either but a good thread nonetheless.

my bf hasn't been driving long but our boys (8 & 9) know that Daddy is only a phone call away if they want to talk to him. So far things haven't changed too much other than me having to deal with issues solo. I have been discussing most things with him and the boys make videos for him so things are much the same. Of course the holidays haven't hit yet but we will get through it. We've been through worse :) . The hardest part for me will be moving to TX from KY with 2 kids and all our animals solo lol.

    Happy wife, happy life!!!!

You both have to be on board with the plan, if not, it won't work. Kids, adapt, their much more resilient than we think!!!
