How do companies get away paying daily?

    I was wondering how companies get away with paying their employees daily. What do the rules say that allow them to do this?

    ???? Rules on allowing to pay daily? Are you talking getting a settlement daily or a daily pay rate?

    Getting a daily pay rate. Regardless of miles or hours you're still paid the same amount, day in, day out.

    You must mean salary drivers.Theres quite a few at my company that gets paid salary.But not without their consent.With the drivers at my company,salary works to their advantage.They get paid $950.00 a week.I wouldn't mind it only you better have a dam good excuse for missing a day or coming in late.

    I wouldn't drove for a company that paid $700.00 salary,you know darn well you'll work every penny of that money and then some.

    There is an exemption for motor carriers from the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act).

    dunno, just took a weekly pay otr gig. going into it i know i'm gonna make a little less than if i was paid per mile, but it's got it's benefits. like, even though the trucks have sleepers, i'll be in a hotel every night. and for every 5 days out, i earn 2 days off. so like everything, there's gonna be trade offs.

    The last job I had for 5 years paid us a salary. We ran in 5 surrounding states daily & home every night. We ran only what they sold the day before. So, sometimes it was average, sometimes light, sometimes long. And sometimes it depended on the route. They loaded us at night, we came in & made multiple stops & came back home. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great pay either. But I have to say they didn't really ask us to do anything else either. If they did on occasion, they paid us extra for that. We were also Monday - Friday only.

    The job I have now, I am only out one or two nights per week & work only Monday - Friday. Sometimes I am home every night. I run 5 states but only about 300 miles max one way. This company is paying me $150 per day or .36 per mile whichever is greater. I usually don't run enough miles to go over $150 but sometimes, I only work 3 or 4 hrs per day. Its not uncommon to work 6 or 7 hrs per day. However, there are days like yesterday when I drove a little over 400 miles, made a delivery in one town & drove to another town, loaded & returned home. This put me working around 11 hours yesterday. Personally, I cant complain.

    Its a small company & I am the only driver. They do ship out a few other loads daily through common carrier / OO's, etc. But most of those are going over my 300 mile general radius.

    Many drivers prefer knowing exactly what their paycheck will be each week. As Ubu posted, motor carries are exempt from overtime pay. Navajo has some of those daily rate jobs & pay $150.00 per day; something wrong with their website, you must click on "Equipment for sale" to get to the daily rate jobs & where they're located.
